Which Mobile Bands for Oz?

Hi All,

Which mobile bands should I be looking for when buying a phone for use in Oz? I am aware that 2G will be gone soon.

I am currently switching between networks with cheap starter sims and use all 3 providers.

Cheers,

If you're able to ask the forum you're more than capable of googling an answer.

But because you obviously can't be bothered

    Which Mobile Bands for Oz

Midnight Oil will be on the road soon.

  • Sorry, I had already googled and know which bands are used. I meant that a lot of china phones don't support all bands. Is it really necessary to have a phone which supports all Aussie bands or will it still work in metropolitan areas?

It is mainly Band 800 which is not supported on many phones.

  • Nano-SIM card slot; BTV-DL09:; GSM: 850/900/1800/1900 MHz; UMTS: Band1/2/5/6/8/19; TD-SCDMA: Band 34/39; LTE-TDD: Band 38/39/40/41(100MHz); LTE-FDD: Band 1/3/5/7/8/19/20/28

    Is this all good?

4G bands are all over the place. Too many to list but look for 1800, 2100 and 2600 as a minimum
There are only 3 x 3G bands used in Oz. - 2100 used by everyone. 900 used exclusively by Optus and 850 by both telstra and Voda.
So if you get a phone that covers all the 3G bands you are well and truly covered in Australia and mostly around the world. If you can also get 1900 (America) then you have the whole world in your hands
ie Look for 850/900/1900/2100 for a global phone or 850/900/2100 and an all Oz phone

    • I think the minimum should be 700(O&T)/850(V)/1800(V&O&T), for at least adequate 4G compatibility across all networks here. 1800 is definitely a must, being the most original 4G, but 99% of 4G phones would support it anyway. 700 is the main focus for Optus and Telstra right now, and Voda has just enabled 4G on all their 850 sites.

2100 and 2600 at the moment are more… secondary.
