Where to Buy Cheap Suits in Melbourne

Hey guys first time poster here,

Im currently in my final year of studying business/finance at uni, and in need of a suit for job interviews and corporate event etc.

Price range is around $200-500.

From what Ive heard, wool suits are the way to go.

Some places Ive heard about that sell cheap yet decent suits are Mens Warehouse and Bossini, wanted to know your opinions on them and if you have any other suggestions

  • Lived in Melbourne for a while and had an office job … bought suits at the DFO by Spencer Street Station. There was an Oxford in there which was okay.

  • check out Target. they have (at least had) inexpensive but decent looking wool suits - cool wool suits. their website only has them on clearance

OP shops can also be a good source of decent suits (if you're lucky)

also currently Myer - 25% off suit purchases over $100

  • UniQlo :)

  • I have no idea if they're in Melbourne or their quality, but I had to buy a suit recently and it cost me like $150 with the pants at Lowes. (I think it was some sort of sale thing?) I bought it online and got some discount as well (like 10 percent or more?), the size was too small and they let me exchange it at a real shop at no extra cost or anything.

That's a pretty big range. At $500 I would be looking for a brand name on clearance - myer/DJs are good places to look. At $200, you're probably limited to lowes/target.

Costco is another place to look - I've seen Calvin Klein suits there for under $500 … no idea about sizes though.

  • You need to try different brands of suit until you find a good fit. Don't assume you're getting a bargain by buying a brand name suit in the sale if it is ill fitting, most people won't be able to tell the brand of your suit when you have it on. Definitely buy Wool and not synthetic materials like Polyester.

    Some useful information:
    - Which colour suit to buy
    - Good Fitted Suit Visual

  • In the $500 price range, suitsupply.com will eat any of the above suggestions alive

Free shipping and fast and free returns means no risk

  • Suggest you spend $250 and save $250 for tailoring - get a good wool suit that fits you in the shoulders - that's the most expensive part to change, then take it to a tailor and have them finish it for you including the pants. This works best if the shoulders are spot on and you need things taken in. If you need it let out, challenge increases. If you can, get 2 pairs of pants - they wear out faster than the jacket, so you'll almost double the effective life of the suit if you are going to wear it regularly.

Don't worry about brand - suits don't have a big tacky tag telling everyone what brand it is on the outside. A well-fitted cheap suit will always look better than a poorly fitted expensive suit.
