Import a Gas Cooktop and Electric Oven

So I've looked into prices in Australia for Neff ovens and a gas cooktop. They are around $2500 for each item (the ones that I picked out). I've looked online in the uk and found the same items for around (with exchange rate worked out) $1000 each. A massive saving. Even with shipping and potential Australian surcharges it would still work out significantly cheaper. My question is would these appliances meet Aussie standards as they are the exact same model no.s as in Australia or am I just going to have to cough up the ridiculous prices over here?

A big thank you to David at Woodalls and to Ellis (Aka Wesellit) who were very patient and extremely helpful.

I purchased predominately Gaggenau appliances with a Siemens Dishwasher.
all up, the appliances totalled $17100.00.
I used GBS freight which cost $1200.00.
I Used Century Customs Services $3090. (Gst etc)
I used Currency On-line for the bank transfer.

I saved all up around $18000.00 compared to if I'd purchased off the local distributor.

I've also been doing this research. If you import you only get 3 months warranty, and the 2 year European warranty which will involve shipping appliances to Europe for repair. The conclusion I came to was if you can buy while there is a promotion that is relevant to your purchase here, you are better off. There is a deal until 1 April that gives 5/10/15% off depending on how many appliances you are buying. The 4 year warranty in Australia was the deal clincher for me. They are very complicated appliances, would hate anything to go wrong!
Keep us posted on your decision.

  • Go to the huge WP threads on this Part 1 and Part 2.
Ctrl+F and search for terms such as standards

  • I've heard of people building a new house buying all the Miele appliances from an electrical store in the north of England and getting it shipped and avoiding paying VAT on the items. And saving 20k+ I say go for it.
Just make sure the power is the same, not just the voltage but the watts.

  • Make sure the savings is big enough to counter the lack of local warranty.

    • But $17k of appliances can all be replaced for $17k and you're still $1k ahead…

      • the op is talking about one $2500 oven and one $2500 cooktop, that will be $2000 without any shipping, duties etc..

  • We have just renovated another kitchen our 5th, decided to go induction cooktop again but not spend $1500/$2000, purchased one made in China from dealer here in OZ, with the good woman being a chef she says after 2 months use its the best one she's had, price well just $299!, muncher with air switch all up is powerful and works great a mere $115, Oven Viali works ok from Good Guys. In the past have spent many, mnay thousand$ on kitchens not any more.
