Does anyone know if the deal will work if I sign up online for the plan but the iPhone itself has sold out?
Went into the shop and they said no rainchecks at the store… I really want to take advantage of the 2 months credit thing but it expires 31 August and it doesn't look like there'll be new iPhones in by then…

Since it would be an expression of interest, you are not locked into a contract.
Anyway the expression of interest is not for only the iPhone. It is for the phone with a deal.

It's back available for preorder online.
If you complete the order online supposedly the phone will arrive within 4 weeks,
and you should still qualify for the 2 months free as the order was made before 31 August.
I've just made the online upgrade myself!
Ugh.
Tried to pre-order (twice) and both times they said there was a problem with payment. Don't think the orders went through (they didn't show up in my account). The sales office isn't open till Monday so I'll probably call them then and get the thing settled.

You can't sign up online since it is sold out, you can only register your interest and they'll email you when there is stock.
