I need 20,000 points to get a return flight from Brisbane to LA. Is there a quick way to get the points! Otherwise, dows Virgin have some system to purchase the shortfall? I am one of a family of five, so I need to purchase four other flights on the same plane. Hence, I need to book it all at the same time. I'm keen to take advantage of the current sale so I need the points quickly.

You could buy them off another Velocity member, just like how Qantas frequent flyer points get transferred/sold?
Quick question - what do the number of points needed for the seat have to do with a sale? If you're booking a reward fare as opposed to an 'anyseat award' fare then the number of points will be the same after the current sale has finished.
An alternative for points - if you have an amex you may be able to purchase points there and transfer across to velocity. Though this isn't very cheap.

Not if it's a straight reward fare. An 'anyseat reward' is effectively paying for a cash ticket with points (meaning you will earn points and status credits, unlike a reward seat on the airline's own metal or network). However the value is almost always extremely poor, as the rewards program determines the points value for you based on the cash price.

You can transfer Krisflyer miles to velocity. I don't know if there is still a deal out there but I received 5,000 Krisflyer miles for joining their program and then transferred them straight over to Velocity.

Here's some steps to get the 20,000 points you're after:
- Sign yourself and 7 friends/family members up to crown rewards (link is in the first page comments of the recent velocity deal on referring new velocity members).
- Sign up bonus posted within 10 mins is 5,000 crown points, which you can transferred/redeemed overnight to velocity as 2,500 points per person.
- Family pool or transfer these all to you - if transferring each transfer needs to be a minimum of 5,000 points so you may need a couple of pools or friends/family with existing small balances they can lend/transfer to you to get the minimum 5,000.
- And voila, you have 20,000 points within 24 hours
Note all crown rewards members need to be 18+ and setting up an account is not setting up a betting account (although they ask you a few times during sign up whether you want that as well)
