  • How do these compare to the xiamoi hybrid earphones?

    • Not sure, but the buttons are easier to identify by feel. I accidentally end a call many times with Hybrid IV while trying to adjust volume.

  • Triple driver better than dual driver?

    More bass maybe?

      Comprehensive review here

Basically there's two dynamic for lows and a single balanced armature transducer for mids and highs.
Apparently these have a strong V-shaped sound

I have these and also had the hybrid ones. Being an average user and not an audiophile I can't tell the difference other than the fact that I find HD ones a bit softer on volume (i.e. not loud enough) as compared to the hybrid ones. An audiophile friend of mine tells me this might be because HD are triple driver has higher resistance so need an amp to drive those to full potential.

I have these. They don't really sound good considering my music taste (hip-hop). I found the highs too high and i couldn't sufficiently rectify it with an EQ - it actually made some songs uncomfortable. Every now and again i'd hear a song that the earphones did well on, but it was rare.

Build quality is great, but even after a bit of burning in I don't enjoy having to use them.

    • Thanks for your review, I listen to a lot of hip hop also.

which inner earphones do you rate the best in the sub $100 price range?

      • Shure se215

    • Sorry for the late reply, I just received mine today and I have to agree the highs are really high compared to the IV Hybrids. A bit of a shock. It might take some adjusting to I suppose, we'll see. I listen to metal and while industrial can be a bit uncomfortable doom sounds awesome with these. This is without any EQ. Somehow they feel more comfortable to wear too than the IV Hybrids. I think I paid around $26 for these from GB, but I can't find the deal… And I just did after commenting here

I didn't realise 3 button Xiaomi earphones don't work to their full extent on iDevices. I'm sad :(

    • They made it for the China market where iPhone is not that popular. If they made an international product, it would probably have two separate models, one for iDevices one for Android.

We are importing items not made for our market, that is why iDevice support is only partial.

Bose do the opposite. They have 3 buttons and only one button works on Android. They have an Android version too but they didn't bother making it more functional. They just removed the two buttons that don't work so you have one giant button.

Bose don't give a toss about Android, Xiaomi don't with iOS. You win some, you lose some.

      • Is there any alternative way to get the Xiaomi version to work with all three buttons on iPhones? Possibly a jailbreak tweak…

Do the two buttons mean that much to you?

Might be cheaper/easier to just find a pair of in-ears that are compatible with your handset?

        • @lostn: I've already bought a pair of Xiaomi earphones before I realised. Adjusting volume is handy.

        • @sween64: Use the volume rocker buttons on your phone. I presume it is in your hand already?

        • @lostn: Ah not when it's in my pocket…

    • Another, reason to switch to android :).

  • Hi all,

anyone know the difference between this one and Original Xiaomi In-ear Hybrid Earphones Pro from http://www.gearbest.com/earbud-headphones/pp_566702.html?wid…

    • It's come up before, from a while ago:
      https://www.ozbargain.com.au/comment/4172564/redir
It's a bit vague but seems retailers just use diff names for same product.

      • ahh ok thanks. I bought the one from gearbest and I would've been pissed of if this was one better :p

      • There are infact a Pro and Pro HD version. Unless the seller mentions HD in the name or includes the model number you don't really know which one you'll get.

        • The 'pro' ones In link is dual driver which i thought was the first hybrid they released (which they might have changed the name from hybrid pistons?), the 'pro hd' is the triple driver which when first released several sellers only called the 'pro' while others called them 'pro hd' and 'hd pro'. I followed it on head fi etc for a bit and gave up.
Its confusing to say the least.

        • @sigh: I agree, it is bloody confusing. I need to stop reading the comparisons and just be happy what I bought :)

    • Its the same model (version 6). You can tell by the rounded edges on the bit that sticks out of your ear, the older (hybrid dual) version had a flat end.

I have most of the Xiaomi headphones and like this set the best, so long as you get a good ear fit these will pump out some serious bass. There's not a great deal of difference to the hybrid duals, its more personal preference than anything else. You will be happy with any of them for the price you are paying.

Only thing I mark as a slight negative on this is they have gotten rid of the braided wiring for a silicone covering. I have caught it on a few things when walking along as it forms a big loop out of my pants pocket where the braided versions dont.

      • ahhh ok, I'll be using this headphone mainly for hands free call, so voice clarity is important to me.

      • Yeah I have the piston 2, 3 and the Pro HD. I prefer the braided cable of the 3 the best, but the buttons on this are much better. Sound quality is better on these, but the highs are too pronounced. It sounds cleaner, but the 3s are more even.

  • For this price I'd spring for a pair of wireless headphones - like the Meizu EP51s. Waiting for a deal…

    • +1

I have the meizu and they are definitely good, but the pistons have much better quality - and that could even be just due to the cheap DAC in the Meizu.

  • Hey, I need some cheap and long lasting earphones. Any suggestions?

    • Piston Youth or Dazzle editions can be had for $5 every new and then. They sound very good for $5 earphones.

  • Gearbest and Banggood… which one is most likely to actually deliver it within the next 2 months?

    • +1

GB. I got mine recently within a fortnight of ordering.

  • How do these compare to the Xiaomi Piston 2?
