Recommend Me an Xbox One Headset ~ $100

I recently bought an Xbox One (probably along with many other OzB's during the recent flash sale).
Can anyone recommend me a headset ~$100. I have the new style controller with the 3.5mm jack.

So far I have come up with these options I really don't have an idea but looking for something that will last and that is comfortable
I want to know if it's worth spending the extra $50 or so to get out of the entry level headsets.

Polk 4 Shot ~$55

  • Interested in these. However I have the old style controller.

    • i believe the polk 4 shot and turtle beach come with adapters

The Polk 4 Shot is good and comes with a headset adapter for controlling game/chat volume and gives quick access to mute. Also, the inbuilt mic doesn't pick up any voice so contact Polk and ask them to send out the boom mic for free (if it's not included in the box already).

The TB 50X doesn't come with the headset adapter so take that into consideration.

You can get the XO Four for $103 with the CYBER code for 20% off -

I found the sound of the Polk 4 Shot just a little bass heavy but for the price, it's a great headset. The XO Four has good sound and was a little more balanced for me. The cups are also a little bigger so if you have bigger ears, you may be better off with the XO Four.

I haven't tried the 50X nor the Hyperx headsets.

    • do you think it;s worth the extra $50 to get the XO four stealth?

For most people, probably not but read on.

The Polk are comfortable with leatherette padding and smaller cups and have a good sound - a little bit bassy so good for explosions, etc.

The XO Four are also comfortable although I did find the headband a little tighter than other headsets. They have slightly bigger cups with fabric padding and have good sound as well.

If you don't like the Polk 4 Shot, you could just use them as normal headphones and it even comes with a smartphone cable for phone calls. The inbuilt mic tucks away so it doesn't look like a headset.

Bear in mind that neither have any external surround processing (like the more expensive Turtle Beach and Astros have), but these will give some surround presence.

Finally, the Polk doesn't have mic monitoring when plugged into the headset adapter but it will when you plug it directly into the controller (although you lose the physical controls of the headset adapter). The XO Four will have mic monitoring with either the adapter or connecting directly to the controller. Mic monitoring is one of those things where you either need it or you don't care. For me, I prefer to have mic monitoring to avoid speaking loudly at night.

Anyway, I have done way too much testing with headsets. :)

My go to headset at the moment is the TB XP500. It has EQ adjustments, voice morphing, mic monitoring, 8 sound presets, surround sound, and Bluetooth for connecting to phone while playing. I picked it up for $124 which was a great price - https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/219136

        • Thanks for the detailed reply!
Looks like I'm going for the Polk 4 shot to see if I'll even get into using it.
Nice to have the option to use as normal head phones too.
If I find I use it alot I'll upgrade to something more expensive.
But considering I got the Xbox for $300 it's hard to justify buying a headset almost have that price.
I've already spent $100+ in accessories and games in the past week.

    • Thanks. For half the price the Polk sounds a good deal, and that ebay link says the boom mic is included.

  • The Hyper x cloud II are awesome i have a pair i use for pc and my ps4.

check reviews they are very much worth it.

Fully recommend the Polk 4 shots, bought one two years for 100 (came with a game), was some of the best 99 I've spent. My little sister really wanted them, gave them to her and bought a new one just last year for 50.

The fact that they come with the adaptor makes it insane value for money. The only issue i have with them is the game mic they give you is too sensitive, you have to keep it a little further away from the headset as it picks up game audio and causes echo for people in the party. the inbuilt mic is pretty horrible, that's why they come with that new mic already in the box.

Other than that, the value for money is definitely there.

  • the hyperx clouds are probably the most popular and highly regarded headset for the price. if you want reviews etc of any of em check out Amazon for user reviews.

  • Aliexpress

    • Really?
      Any suggestions?

  • bump was going to start my own thread but decided to hijack this one instead. :)
Am also looking for advice on a headset for PC, the priority is comfort. I currently have a pair of Logitech G35's and after an hour on skype last night my ears were really hurting. Was looking at a hyper-X cloud II which I think is the USB model (which I need). I also need some level of sound isolation so on ear types probably wont do the job. Best price I could find was about $119 so does anyone know if there are better prices around?

    Cheers

(edit: there also seems to be a lot of 'cheap' Hyper-X 2's on Amazon, like $9 or $13.99 ( https://www.amazon.com/gp/offer-listing/B00SAYCVTQ/ref=dp_ol… ) are these obviously not originals? )

  • I recently picked up XO Seven's from Ebay, new for $100 with express shipping. Excellent build, do recommend.
