OTG Patch Cable That Supports Reverse Charging

I have a pocket WiFi that supports reverse charging. So I plugged a dirt-cheap OTG adapter in, and a small LED lamp into that - and it worked. So I removed the LED lamp and plugged my Android phone in instead. That does not work. (The pocket WiFi doesn't charge the phone.) I also reversed the direction of the cable, which didn't work either.

Can someone recommend an OTG adapter/patch lead they know works for reverse charging a phone from a pocket WiFi?

Maybe the pocket WiFi doesn't output enough power.

Does it say in the manual how much it outputs? What model pocket WiFi and what phone?

    • pocket wifi that also charges? i want one of those!

The pocket WiFi is an Optus Huawei E5786. (Telstra also have one - each obviously supports that carrier's frequencies.) It's a Category 6 device (does Carrier Aggregation if the towers in your area support it). The Optus version supports 802.11ac. The Telstra one doesn't.

The manual has no specs listed but the battery is 3000mA. All the manual shows is a picture of how to plug-in to reverse charge. i.e. You plug an OTG patch lead into the E5786 (which is not included in the box!), then a normal male USB to Micro USB male used to charge the typical phone plugs into that.

I followed the pic, plugged in a cheap OTG adapter, then a USB LED laptop lamp into that, turned modem on, and the lamp comes on. Plug a phone in instead, and nothing happens.

It occurred to me the cheap OTG adapter might allow the LED lamp to light, but not allow current to the phone. But I thought surely it should do something!? It's one of these: https://www.aliexpress.com/item/100-Tested-OTG-Adapter-USB-t…
