Xiro Drone Smart Flight Battery $98 in Store Only @ Harvey Norman [Chadstone, VIC]

20

I was in store at Harvey Norman Chadstone Victoria.

The batteries are selling for $98 down from $217.

I am not sure if the sale is limited to Chadstone Victoria but it is a good saving.

There is no sale on the actual quadcopter just additial batteries.

  • what voltage is it?

    • Nothing in specs but from the photo it says 11.1V

      • Is that a good voltage spec?

        • It's in the low-range of good, generally you want to be looking at something like 11.4 for LiPo batteries, but voltage isn't a big deal in general especially for LiPo batteries, you want to be looking at amperage and cycles instead.

          Here's a handy chart for that -

        • @dfaktz: thanks

        • @supnigs super skids: Happy I could be of service.

          @dfaktz:

          Yeh…no.

FYI each cell of the battery is nominally rated as 3.7v.
This is a 3 cell battery (otherwise known as 3S) meaning it is rated as 11.1v. The battery is the official Xiro branded battery so saying its in the low range of good voltage is nonsense.
When charged it will show as 12.6v (4.2v per cell) and it wont let you discharge it below 10.2 (3.4v per cell) as it will return to home and land. For this drone with its proprietary battery you dont need to know anything else.

        • @dfaktz:

generally you want to be looking at something like 11.4 for LiPo batteries

          That's the nominal voltage. (3 x 3.7v = 11.1v, 3 x 3.8v = 11.4v)

At full charge both are at 4.2v per cell so 12.6v for a 3S pack.

Nominal voltage is pretty much the least significant detail you should be looking at when deciding on a LiPo.

Edit: Beaten by a Monk while I took my sweet time writing this :P

          What about key factors like

          • Discharge (C) rate
          • Internal Resistance
          • Manufacturer

Voltage isn't a big deal at all so why even mention it or make it a factor?

Thanks for clarification, Though of course I do agree the way I worded things about voltage wrong, I just didn't want him to feel like it was a silly question.

@Maverick-au: Because he asked. Everything you added in reply there was in the article linked in plain understandable text.
Also, didn't know this was a proprietary battery.

      what voltage is it?

Why does it matter? It doesn't so why even ask.

      • +1

Do you really need to ask?

    11.1v 3S 5200mAh

  • I'm going to assume you didn't buy one so we can grab a copy of the receipt or alike?
..Have emailed their team asking about the deal in WA, will report back when I hear anything.

(Excellent timing if the deal is indeed nationwide, since just like all my other hobbys, I've started to impulse buy everything for my first drone.. .. Though I should probably shutup and just make a forum thread for suggestions/talk)

Ill upload a copy of it when i get home

  • Oh, is that what it is.

Batteries for my soon to arrive i'm sure quadcopter are somewhat cheaper.
