Best Auto Vacuum Robot?

Hi all,

Looking to buy an automatic vacuuming robot e,g, Roomba.. I know the technology has improved a lot since it first came up, at least that's what I heard, that right?

Mainly just need living area, with tiles vacuumed, some carpet in living area. No pets in the house.

To be honest, I have no idea how this thing works, except they go around vacuum randomly? Does it know which spots not been vacuumed?

What's your feedback on this robot.

Appreciate your feedbacks & suggestions. Thanks

Won't ask here if I got that ay? smart ass

      • That was a fair response to your question.

        It's what's called being proactive.

    • Related question for those that have a Choice membership: Is it actually worth it? Has it genuinely been useful on a regular basis when considering multiple products? Just curious.

You will get many different points of view on this topic. I can only comment on the 3 that i have owned.
    1) Samsung SR8845
    2) LG Robot Robotic Vacuum Cleaner VR6270LVMB (Hombot)
    3) Roomba 530, 630, 780

Both 1 and 2 have cameras and map the room. The roomba is hated by many because when watching it, it appears to bounce randomly around the room. The roomba will take longer to clean as it does multiple passes around the room, going over same areas. Having said that, I hated 1 and 2 and I am a roomba guy.

    +ves:
    1) it is very agressive and tries to get into all areas (the LG hated my carpet tassles and stopped). It is not scared off by chair legs and get in real close.
    2) spares are readily available on ebay and can be shipped cheaply from china. Try and get spares for the Kolbold VR200 on ebay !!
    3) many support forums are available after warranty is up (www.robotreviews.com) to provide help. The only LG forum is in Germany
    4) the robot is built in a modular way, which means you can swap parts easily.
    5) many people sell then 2nd hand, which means you can get a 630 for decent price or spares…

    -ves:
    1) if virtual walls are not used, because there is no camera, the robot may leave the room without having fully cleaned it. You can use virtual lighthouses to prevent this however this in only in the later models (780, 560, 880, 980).

The roomba 980 is released now and is $$, it has a camera and wifi (so it does room mapping) if i had the $$ i would get that.

I buy broken roombas and sell them for extra $. Biggest issue is people do not maintain them well. They do not look after them and so after 12 months, they fault.

I'd be looking at getting a 2nd hand 630 off ebay / gumtree for $200-$240.

p.s if you are in Vic, you can try one of mine.

    • Roomba 630 or aldi one which is your advice?

Also how do you maintain a vacuum robot?

Do you mean constant cleaning of the brushes or buying new ones every day 6 months ?

Xioami Robot Vacuum cleaner, best value for money.

    • Yeah, i've been reading some good reviews and that looks exciting. My mate is buying 2 in China on a work trip. He's only paying $300-400AU. I would like to try one. I guess the only concern is if something goes wrong, but for the price I would risk it.

      • I share that concern too. However, planning to buy using platinum Credit Card which gives extra 1 yr warranty.

  • I picked up a Stirling robot vacuum from Aldi just over a year ago when they had them. Here's a Youtube review (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NpnPT0hmbz0), http://www.stirlingappliances.com.au/product-categories/clea…
It's been surprisingly good on floating timber floorboards. Less so on carpet but I mainly use it in the living areas.
It works like the old Roombas in the random combination of patterns to eventually randomly cover the whole floor space, but I just program up to run a couple of times a week a couple of hours before I get home and it's all done when I get home from work.

Pet or long hair can get wrapped up in the brush but that just means fairly regular maintenance. Without that it can run a couple of weeks without a clean out. Reports from Whirlpool is that parts are generally readily available but after over a year I've had no need for anything and even the battery still lasts almost as long as the start.

At the other end of the scale the best are the higher end Roombas and Neato botvac are where the real robot geeks go, but you'll pay for it. I've considered upgrading but the Stirling does a stirling job for the price (pun intended). If you were willing to wait till they sell them again, you really can't go wrong for the price.

    • How much for the aldi one?

      • They were $200 at the time. Unfortunately with Aldi you have to wait till they decide to get them in stock, which is never guaranteed

  • Merged from Robot Vacuum Recommendations? Mostly Carpet Some Vinyl

So how is everyone's robot vacuum doing? Has anybody got any good recommendations for maybe one that not only sucks up dirt on carpet but wet cleans it somehow.. So you know it actually cleans a dirty carpet and not just the debris.

And as far as dirt suctioning robot vacuums which one are you recommending.

The cheap Xiaomi ones that have been popping up for $400 AUD seem like a good bargain but can anyone comment really. And with the higher end premium ones how effective and efficient have you found them to be compared to other robot vacuums?

For my usage I am looking for one to cover a few rooms and hallways not too big but a bit of navigation required definitely more than one large room.

Have a vinyl kitchen but the rest of the house is carpet.

Also what have been your answers for wet cleaning carpet do you guys hire someone else to do it once a year or do you hire the Woolworths/coles rentals every once in awhile and be done with it.

Obviously automaton is the best solution something set and forget so I am gauging which model to buy based on past user experience.

The Samsung ones and roomba ones look nice but very pricey but if it has valuable features or larger storage than the cheaper competitors I might buy.

Noteworthy note, I have no height restrictions meaning all my furniture sits pretty high and a lot of the space is empty so that is why I was looking at some of the larger robots for better more features.

Thanks Ozbargain as always I love you and can't wait for the barrage of jokes to follow.

      • he could have just dumped them in an ocean current and it would've drifted here quicker

    • Buuump please

    • Do they come with any virtual walls? Might need one or two for a stair case and bathroom.
