By that you mean regional stores only - nothing in any of the major cities.

  • Regional Australia only, not for city folks.

Nice, gonna hit down to traralgon's Optus with my Lebara (?) mobile sim.

  • Interesting that they won't port your phone number. From FAQ:

Q:If I take up a Free Nokia 7230, can I port my existing number over to Optus Pre-Paid?
A:Unfortunately this offer is just for new customers that take up a new mobile service. You’ll need to take up a new Optus Pre-Paid Mobile Number to take up the free handset.

  • BOO not many locations at all :(

Still tho a fantastic promo if you live nearby - gets my vote :)

So can you buy a $2 Voda SIM and take it?

    • Go ask for one of the free prepaid microsims for iPads from Voda. Dunno if they'll knock a microSIM back tho.

  • Even with the country stores, you'd have to be early to be in the first 50, I bet.

Anybody want a defunct SIM of mine to have a go with? Just kidding, prolly not worth your trouble or mine.

First 50 is talking about a single store or the whole function?
I believe there will fews families of 5+ queue up there…..give a pass and have good sleep on Sat. Good luck~

  • Ha - I can predict, A poor mans Apple store line up in a country town. Maybe Optus might hand out a free jelly bean or two for those in sleeping bags camped outside. Good luck to those lined up, maybe a report from those successful would be interesting.

    That aside, nice post

  • To me the terms and conditions seem to tell that you need to buy and activate a prepaid mobile connection to be able to get the "free" handset. From the T&C: "To be eligible to receive their free handset, customers must bring sufficient identification to activate the new Pre-Paid service in store." And as far as I know, the Optus starter SIM pack costs $29.95. So it's not really a free mobile then. Having said that, I will surely be there to claim mine.

I'm not sure what you're getting at. Every Pre-Paid service sold (or given away) in Oz needs an ID check and details copied.

      • Perhaps the quote was a bit misleading. But my point was that in the big print it does not say anywhere that you actually have to take a new pre-paid connection. Just says that you can swap the old non-optus SIM to a new mobile. It's only in the small print that they talk about having to activate a new pre-paid service to be eligible to receive the free handset. And doing so will cost you. At least it does not say anywhere that you would get the new sim card with the mobile.

i highly doubt they would give you a phone without an optus pre-paid sim because the phone is packaged with a new sim for optus pre-paid that has $10 credit on it

    • Optus shops should also have the $2 sims, ask for one of those :)

Pitty the NSW stores are all located in weird places (no offense to those living in said weird locations) :)

  • geez…limited shop and they are very far.

  • It says 'Existing Optus or Boost Mobile customers are not eligible for this offer.' Not sure if I could just buy a prepaid sim from voda to get this mobile as I'm using Optus prepaid at the moment.

Scored a unit, without any fuss!

  • Paid 30$ for the sim with this free phone?
