How to Connect External (wired) Speakers to Samsung Monitor?

Hi everyone,

I found this http://www.samsung.com/us/computing/monitors/flat/samsung-si… monitor lying around in my cupboard and since my pc broke down I'm using it for my PS4. The problem is though, the monitor doesn't have built-in speakers. I have external speakers though, but I don't know how to connect them to my monitor / PS4 to get the sound from the PS4. The only connection ports on the back of the monitor is for the power, HDMI (being used by PS4) and VGA port which is the only port free.

Thanks for the help

You either need a HDMI Audio Extractor, or connect the speakers to the headphone jack on a Dualshock 4 controller, if you have one.

    • This, or an amplifier.

  • If your PS4 has audio out you could connect the speakers directly to the PS4.

  • Tell us what connections you have from the speakers, not the monitor. You'll connect the speakers to the PS4.

    • The speakers have a 3.5mm headphone jack and a USB

  • I had the exact same problem connecting a Chromecast to a computer monitor without built in speakers. Luckily the monitor had a 3.5mm line out on the back!
Another option besides connecting to the controller is a HDMI audio extractor like this one from Jaycar. Probably can get something similar off eBay for cheaper.
