Case of 2, what next .. case of 1

    • +3

Its a case of how few can you have in a case

  • Thanks OP - $25 DELIVERED to 30XX for the case of two.

I think the price of $258.00 was for a case of 12. A Google shows MyShopping listing as 'Stormy Creek Botrytis Semillon 2009 (per case of 12) for $258'. I still think this is a good deal, but I don't think it used to be $129.00 a bottle.

    • Now that makes more sense!

    • So it was a case of misleading advertising by the hipsers?

Or you reckon it was just a mistake?

In either case, a case of two is not a case. A case of two is called "a box".

  • Was the $258 price for a case of 12? Google can give old records of $258 for 12.

  • Soo… these were originally $129 each, for a 375ml bottle? For a wine from the Riverina? Things really don't add up here, whether in the original pricehipster price quoted, or the case size. Even at the current "bargain" of $25 for effectively one full bottle of wine, I see no deal whatsoever. $25 for two cases of 12 (heck, even 6) and i'll upvote.

    • It's actually $12.50 a bottle and was $21.50.
      So that's a saving of 42%… I think that's a deal

      • this is a price drop of $228.

Yeah I've updated the post now that we see pricehipster was incorrect (case of 12 vs case of 2)

        • @RewardBucks: Two things come to mind;

Why not say 2 bottles for $25?

And what does price taste like?

        • +1

That does sound better. But I was just using Dan Murphys terminology.

@RewardBucks: Far out. Is Dan Murphy's feed incorrect again? I'll look into it. Thanks.

        It's actually $12.50 a bottle

Compared to the half-dozen bottles of De Bortoli Noble One I've picked up for the same price over the past 2-3 months I couldn't call this a deal.

        • Any links to posts? 2 for $25 Noble One I would have been all over.

        • do tell

        • Please share, I'd be interested in those too. Where did you get those at?

        • @RewardBucks: If they were around in enough quantities I'd have posted them up here, but they were clearance items in two different BWS. Bottles halved in price down to $18.50, less 25% buying in a six, less another 5% wish card.

I don't mean to crap all over your deal (and I appreciate you posting it), just that I couldn't see the bargain. If you do want some cheap stickies, it can be worth checking out graysonline auctions. Heard of some half-bottles of Botrytis from Mudgee going for around a fiver each (case buy) of late, and I'd argue the quality wouldn't be too different from the one above.

        • Wow that's a great deal! I'll keep my eyes open for them at my local BWS for any more clearance sales. Plus I'll give the Mudgee half bottles a go.
          Cheers for letting us know.

        • @carwashhair: I would've thought Riverina botrytis is far less risk than from Mudgee…

One other thing that is going to confuse people who are not into the Stickys….

This is a BOX OF TWO HALF BOTTLES - so it's $25 for 750ml. Still a good price, and it's got a bit of age on it so it's won't that cloying sickly sweetness, and will be beginning it's transformation into almost a "port". Mind youi, 9 years is pretty young for this kind of wine.

    I love my dessert wines.

Me too. In the 80's and 90's when I was hooking right into this stuff, all the suppliers used standard 750m wine bottles and it wasn't really even deemed to be "upmarket". Since Aussies were moving away from the sweet and more towards the 'drink now' styles, it was becoming less and less popular.

So we were picking up well aged Botrytis Semillons and Rieslings for $5 or $6 per bottle. We just sculled it like demons, often straight from the bottle like how you'd drink a UDL Mixer, etc. We were buying up 10 to 20 cases at a time from the Cellar Door (who were glad to get rid of it) in the Hunter Valley alternated with fortified Botrytis Muscats, Tokays, etc from Rutherglen. My friends and I became well known as primary consumers.

Occasionally we'd get offered a batch of the new-fangled "designer label" 500ml or 375ml. These were not really to be taken seriously, due to the reduced amount. However we found these "throwdowns" were good on the dancefloor, and they fit in the pocket better LOL.
