Not too sure how to feel about it. Just want everyones opinion.
Nintendo Switch Thoughts?

Do you mean Wii u was ahead of its time?
A bit ahead, a bit behind. I think the graphics power would've worked if people were more accepting, because style is more important than pixel count. Having a tablet to play something whilst other people use the TV is a great idea.
However, with so many people people crying "Zelda's graphics are terrible" when they're actually effing beautiful, signifies to me that the industry has no room for stylistic games, and therefore an underpowered but well utilized console has no place in a world where there's a god damned Assassin's Creed game every year. How did we even get to that stage? lol
Edit: @godofpizza, oops I forgot to hit reply :3
Well the Wii-U didn't release with MarioKart8. In fact, Mariokart 8 released in 2014 and the Wii-U released in 2012. That's 2 whole years between console and game; enough time for Nintendo to get one of their dev teams to work on a real successor. Unless it just took them two years to insert a battle mode and splatoon characters.Mariokart is usually a few months or a year afterwards I believe.
Yep. I actually got my Wii U when Mario Kart 8 came out as I didn't want a Nintendo console that can't play Mario Kart, let alone Smash Brothers and more.
I incorrectly thought at the time of MK8 release that the Wii U would gain traction and to expect a slew of AAA titles from 3rd party developers like in the NES, SNES and N64 days of my youth. I didn't own a Gamecube or Wii as I was in mid to late teens then and Nintendo just couldn't compete with Sony for me for the titles I was after. Some of those titles used to be Nintendo exclusives.
Unfortunately that did not happen, the damage had been done of 2 year old stagnate hardware just not being up to snuff of developers when compared to the sales figures of Sony and Xbox consoles. Why should they spend time and money porting worse versions for dismal sales as what happened with Assassins Creed, Mass Effect or Deus Ex on the Wii U.
The switch is plagued by the same systemic problems of Nintendo management, but is worse this time around. They release an underpowered console with no titles exclusive to it (I'm playing Zelda BoTW on my Wii U) and the are expect a bunch of 30+ year olds to be nostalgic enough about Nintendo software to purchase it. Kids these days don't want Nintendo. They have no nostalgia and connection with the company, so why should they pay more for a console with worse specs than what's been on the market for years and with a significantly smaller game base, and a recent history of caring more about gimmicks such as Amiibos than attracting 3rd party developers.
Nintendo's recent tactics also display they have no interest in gaining new fans, and no interest in keeping their old ones. I didn't play Metroid Prime Federation F***s, but I DID play StarFox, and my GOD. As soon as I heard about it, I thought "I hope you can turn the motion control off" but no sir, locked to gyro shooting controls. That concept is totally insane, but it suggests Nintendo was willing to take a risk with existing fans of Lylat Wars to make new fans. But it didn't do that either!
Also, everyone, everywhere, wants Thousand Year Door 2. But all we get is more games with stickers, and nobody likes the sticker Paper Mario games >:( It is my opinion that the switch is too similar to the Wii-U for it to exist as a piece of hardware alone; if there were games to justify it then it would make sense, but as it stands the console is a portable Zelda machine. Everything else is returning mixed reviews of "I don't think this is a good title for the Switch at launch".
The Switch is in fact, NOT gimmicky enough to justify its existence. It has less gimmicks than the Wii-U gamepad, but you can take it with you on the bus. And that's fine, you know? Only if you're going to bring the games to the table to justify it.
OMG Star Fox did the same to me! What were they thinking?!
You think that's bad though? I traded my N64 copy of Lylat Wars for Superman 64 after I finished it. This was before internet reviews were a well known thing and we had to go off magazine reviews, so it wasn't really a lack of research. I still feel my stomach drop when I remember what I did..
At this point I wonder if Nintendo and the public would be better off next generation if Nintendo either sold their intellectual property to Sony AND Microsoft or ported to those consoles also. That way the the people would get these nostalgic franchises They would reach a greater audience
I'm really enjoying playing Zelda BoTW on my Wii U at the moment, but in the back of my head I can't help feel as though it's a low budget and severely cut down version of Skyrim with elements from Shadows of Mordor in it. I really enjoy it, but it's not innovative and it does not deserve the critical acclaim it's getting. It's a solid 8/10, not a 9.8.10 as the critics would make you believe.
It makes me sad to think of Nintendo as being unsalvageable in the current gaming climate at this point. Nintendo consoles made up a huge part of my youth. I hope I'm wrong.
@c0balt: Well I disagree about the 'budget skyrim' remark. The point of Skyrim is not to "go wherever you want and do whatever you want" but to "Go to a town, get all the quests, and then go do all the quests. And then you'll level up so you can do more quests" But I feel like when I find something on Zelda, I am genuinely discovering something. Zelda also has little Avatar Strength, and a lot of design went into growing you as a player rather than Link as a character. And the puzzles are all genius, some of the ones further from the plateu are kinda noodle scratchers too; more of a reward you'd get from something like Skyrim or Mordor. In Zelda, you can get off the plateu and go and fight Ganon right off the bat. Being able to beat the final boss in a sandbox game at any point in the story should be a feature in every sandbox game.
The climbing is better than those games as well, because you can climb up anything rather than the 'designated' climb points, which always bothers me about Asscreed clones. However, a major gripe I have with Zelda is that, the combat is great, but it just breaks the game; any time the physics kick in, the game slows down to a crawl; when I am fighting half a dozen bokoblins the game punishes me for hitting numerous ones at once with a half second frame freeze. That's just not good enough and makes me want to avoid combat.
The point of this Zelda game was to break the 'zelda' formula. Gear-Gating (get the arrows, beat the boss with the arrows, access the next dungeon with the arrows, get the hookshot, beat the boss with the hookshot, access the next dungeon with the hookshot) is a serious problem in Zelda as it makes a franchise that used to prioritize adventure and exploration into a dull, linear hand-hold fest (Looking at Skyward Sword for that one). I am glad they went back to the roots of the very first Legend of Zelda game. "No story, no tutorials, here is a sword, GO!". Stumbling upon the Master Sword in Breath of the Wild is immediately rocketed up into one of my top ten moments in videogames. However, I wish there was more to find besides the koroks, shrines, and loose weapons.
@FrankMcFuzz
I share the same sentiments, sometimes I don't understand what they're thinking. Metroid Federation should never have been called Metroid and they did it a massive disservice ignoring the 30th anniversary lats year.
Starfox didn't really click with me either, the motion controls killed it for me and also the hovercraft segments, I'll be sticking to the 3ds version of Starfox.
@Dunan: Not only did they call it "Metroid Federation Force", but they called it "Metroid PRIME Federation Force". The PRIME makes a huge difference, and I feel that they only did that to goad the massive fanbase of Metroid Prime into buying it, only to be met with huge resistance. And yes, the walker/gyrocopter parts were the worst parts of Zeroes, I said that they would be when I saw the trailer at E3, because it doesn't take a genius to see what ruins good games, but again, Nintendo just doesn't care.
I would prefer that they not try at all, if they're just going to misuse franchises. However I think they hit the nail on the head with Zelda; they upset a lot of OoT-fans but the series will never go anywhere if you just stick to the formula. They've proven, somehow, that Zelda is not just this 'cooking with numbers' game that it has been for a half dozen iterations.
they upset a lot of OoT-fans
OoT is my all time favourite game - it's the game that made me realise I love games. I've clocked it more than a dozen times over the years.
What OoT fan in the right mind would be disappointed with BotW? It's a brilliant step forward for the series.
@johnno07: A lot of people are upset that the story is bad and graphics are 'bad' (Seriously something wrong with people who thinks BotW's graphics are bad…), and also that the soundtrack is underutilized. Apart from a few call backs, the soundtrack stays pretty tame for the duration of the game, and, being the internet, some people are totally offended by that.
The game is tailored to be a re-imagining of the very first Zelda game. You meet an old man who tells you that you're a hero and off you go, save the princess! There isn't much hand holding and very minimal story, you can do the core objectives in any order or not at all. And I think that's great; Zelda broke the formula that many people agreed it could never break free of: You didn't have the 'standard' Zelda items like the hookshot, and whilst I kinda miss it, its presence in the game was evidence of "Gear gating"; using the items to dictate which temples you go to and when.
But that doesn't mean the old formula is bad, it's just what they've made the last 6 or 7 core entries with that formula in mind. But, the fact that the game does not stick to its precious formula has some people up in arms. You only have to look at the 7.5 user score on metacritic to realize that people aren't ready for a fresh take on Zelda.
Screw those people, Breath of the Wild is great.
@FrankMcFuzz: How frustrating. I'm doing my best to stay away from general, gaming-related community commentary these days - the most vocal are a bunch of entitled little shits.
like it. kind of wish the screen was a little bigger
hardware looks cool, but nintendo needs to fix the lack of games problem before consideration
It doesn't need a fix, every console at launch has had abysmal launch titles, but they always have gems.
https://www.finder.com.au/nintendo-switch-enjoys-second-best…
Current upcoming games and how the wii u went doesnt give me confidence
i agree jerjergege
my PS4 sat dormant for ages before something decent came along that wasn't a military FPS
each console release has been the same look at JB online 5 pages of pre orders before you get to a game
Nintendo's upcoming catalog isn't looking bad at least they are not over promising and then just delay delay delay in fact i'm still waiting for my copy of Gran Turismo how many times are releases getting pushed back or you get 80% of the game and the rest you download on release day
sorry i love all my consoles
yep bought the switch too and if sony or microsoft could get my whole family chuckling laughing and just having a good time they way nintendo did with this console and it's limited release and oh so many restrictions.
1,Does it work for you ?
2,Does it make your family laugh and play together ?
3,Are there more things coming that you will want ?if you can at least answer 2 of those then stop the moaning buy don't buy just enjoy and get some perspective.
I know its the first console that has ticked all three for me. and thats something i never thought would happen
everything else has only ever ticked 1 and 3 and call me selfish but they were my thing and i liked it that way but this one is everyones and i enjoyed that for the first time more
Wii U is ok, the only thing that it kinda did wrong is the marketing..
Many people including most of my friends think Wii U is just a more powerful Wii.. They should have thought of a separate name or make it a least a little different… Australia is also weirdly quiet about Nintendo releases, look how much marketing and things on TV, when XBONE and PS4 release, look how much marketing is there when 3DS and Wii U releases… This is actually reverse in Japan.
Wii U has a few good games. Mario Kart, Splatoon, Xenoblade X, Bayonetta 2 to say the least. But none of them are marketed enough, especially in Australia.
Look at 3DS, that should give you some confidence, Nintendo is actually pretty great in the portable department.. This console is basically Wii U and 3ds combined.
If you're on trains daily for 1hr+ then buy it. Has made the experience a lot less miserable and shorter. Only play on trains, haven't even plugged it into my TV yet.
Technically paid full price, but really got it for $150 (hoarded giftcards). If I didn't have giftcards then I wouldn't have bought it since the lacking games selection and the console feels unfinished.
Regret getting the Neon version since the red controllers is more a pinky-orange colour than the bright red you see in photos.
It's honestly just a bigger and better Vita. Hopefully Nintendo realises this soon and slows/stops the 3DS business for this.
Zelda BotW: Great pick up and play game.Shrine Trials > Temples. They take 5-10 minutes to finish and there's a lot of them.
Will buy Mario Kart 8 and Puyo Puyo Tetris when they come out.
I personally think this thing is way too awkward and daft to use on the train.
There's nothing awkward about it. People play with tablets larger than Switch on trains.
Agreed, it's significantly smaller than your average tablet and I'd much prefer to sit next to someone playing on a switch rather than someone writing up their life memoirs in a notebook, typing them up on a laptop or reading the paper any day.
But what makes it better than 3ds at the current moment? Maybe next year, when all the major games of this year got released. But right now I see no appeal over 3ds. 3ds just has so much more game.
People rarely apply this logic when a new PlayStation or Xbox is announced. Yes they have a few more launch titles but still barely anything compared to the huge selection on the previous generation. Buying current generation is fun and exciting. The switch is something new. I don't see much benefit in waiting for all the games to come out for the switch. I'll still be buying the same console, just way later after all the excitement has died off and its old news.
And why would anyone make games for a console where everyone is waiting on the sidelines for more games? Its a vicious circle where no one will make games because no one is buying the console because no one will make games.
And f..K waiting a year to play Zelda which is one of if not the best game I've ever played.
A few more is better than "zelda machine". Yes there is that 50 bucks flash game, fast rmx and so on, but small library is small library.
I presonally even waited one year to buy PS4, because I still had some backlog on my PS3. I see potential in switch, that is why I will mostly buy it when this year's game comes out. Nintendo could waited until summer, and get the switch out with Mario Kart 8 Deluxe and Splatoon 2, which will also probably fix some minor issues like Wi-Fi drops frame during this extra 3 month. But they decided go with a rushing soft launch, and they are the one caused the vicious circle you mentioned in your comment.
And hope you enjoy botw. I agree it is a great game, the most fun I ever had on my Wii U.
Why wait a year you can get it on wii u
If this unit gets hacked to play snes I will buy one. Donkey Kong baby
No content so no deal for me..
I'd rather spend money on a ps4 and small tv.
Even Android these days is sometimes hard to have fun on.
To each their own, but with the switch I've been able to take it with me and enjoy it on the go, my ps4 is collecting dust at home.
No brainer for the doubtful, it's a wait and see to a definite no. Poor launch, needs titles, the gimmicks are old hat.
They would have been better off releasing a dockable larger tablet for the young (and young at heart) and pump their exclusives. They probably could still do this with the current and future gaming libraries if they actually partnered with a tech company that knows how to make devices in 2017.
Put those joycon things in the toilet, Nintendo starting to lose direction here and wasting money - stick to software.
Sorry to the fans, just a frustrated old gamer, their software is good for most part, hardware is rubbish.
For $470 you might as well grab a 3DS XL with exclusives on 3D. Then just your existing phone to play their smartphone games like Fire emblem heroes and Pokémon go which are all free on the go.
You would enjoy that bundle than the switch for sure. Plus 3DS XL IMO is the better portable.
At home just play your PS4 or others
Smarter from a value for money point of view, though the graphics between the 3DS XL and the Switch are significantly different.
True but it's definitely value for money compare to this title with few titles plus you can do many other things. $470 is pretty much the same cost as a medium range smartphone
Just buy a vita. Graphics are just as good and has tons of games. More portable too.
It's been amazing, I bought BotW, Pap hardcopy of I Am Setsuna, I bought extra Joy-Con, Charging Grip, screen protector because the screen is plastic not glass.
Can't put it down, I only play in handheld mode.
Is it human nature that when we pay a lot of money for something we won't look negatively on it even when there is compelling evidence to do so.
What's the compelling evidence?
The technical term is called "Choice supportive bias"
To be fair, it works both ways, those who "Choose" not to buy said expensive item will down play the value of the item, and won't look at the positives of the item.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Choice-supportive_bias
Interestingly, this bias also works when someone else chooses for us. Eg someone gives you a black OzBargain T-shirt, over time you will start thinking the black version is better than the orange version.
Thanks
What is this compelling evidence? The console has its flaws, though there are hardly any deal breakers.
I purchased the Switch at launch, and have really been enjoying Zelda (never played it previously), Super Bomberman R and Snipperclips. Also purchased 1-2 Switch, it is alright, bit of a gimmick though. Mario Kart 8 Deluxe is also just around the corner, so whilst content is limited right now, it is far from dire.
The console will be like the 3DS, it will take a year or two to really get going, as more games are released. Super Mario Odyssey looks good, and a lot of people will purchase the console when Pokemon is released for it.
I can't imagine a more dire situation than releasing a new console with that kind of line up. If Microsoft or Sony tried releasing a new console with that type of line up they would be ripped to shreds.
The only decent game (Zelda BoWT) is on Wii U, and the upcoming Mario Kart 8 Delux is also going to release on Wii U. There's no killer app reason to buy the Switch.
You are basically being told to play the games at Nintendo's release schedule rather than chose the games you want to play.
The Wii U is looking to be the last piece of Nintendo hardware I will ever buy.
Calling it a dire situation is an overreaction, they will have a good line up of games by the holiday season, when most consoles sell.
If you are happy playing the game on your Wii U and none of the other games interest you, then there is no reason for you to upgrade. Mario Kart 8 is on the Wii U, the Deluxe version won't be.
Releasing it on Wii u and switch is actually a smart move. It's not like the Wii u is widely owned so they wont be cannibalizing their own sales that much. It also sends a message to Wii u owners that they haven't been forgotten. Funny thing is if they weren't releasing these games on the Wii u I bet you consumers would be here whining about how Wii u was abandoned…
As a Wii U owner and let me tell you Nintendo abandoned that console many years ago. Releasing a single game, 2 years after their last big game (super mario maker) does not mean a console is still supported. It means the game was in development for a long, long time and that they figured it would be better to release a new console seeing as the old one is regarded as dead.
The Wii U launched with significantly more games and look how that turned out.
Loving it.
Right now it's a Zelda console.
I get that. I paid the privilege for that. But it's also the best game ever made.
It has knocked the Ocarina of Time off its perch. Also - I took the car to get new tyres fitted, I took the switch with me. I waited for an hour and played Zelda whilst waiting.
What home console can do that?!
I take the switch in the jammer and do skids whilst playing zelda
How do people think this is the best game ever made. Am I missing something.
a question mark
I think it's more than that…
Yes you're missing something
Because it's a Zelda game. People said it about Skyward Sword, and then when they left it to sit like so much foul cheese, they started to see it was kinda smelly and not worth putting on your plate after the first few goes at it.
That said, I love Breath of the Wild. It is a significantly better sandbox game than all other modern 'formulaic' sandbox games; I am playing Horizon Zero Dawn now that my brother has claimed the Wii-U for Zelda for a week lol, and HZD makes me want to sell my PS4. The western, modern sandbox game is boring, pointless, easy, and exploitable. "Let's play map janitor sim and clean up all the activities and items I've dumped all over your screen" is what they feel like. On the other hand, Zelda respects that you're an intelligent human being, and when presenting you with a problem they never offer to solve the puzzle for you. The game isn't just a matter of time until you beat it like this new open world crap, you need to use a bit of ingenuity, a bit of curiousity, and a decent amount of skill to properly beat it.
Here's an easy comparison. You can only climb the handhold and clearly specified points in games like HZD, Assassin's Creed, MGSV and Shadow of Mordor. But in Zelda you can climb anything. And I believe that's as much of an analogy you really need.
9.1/10, loses 1 point for sub-average soundtrack and common frame dips. And gets 0.1 for no Tingle.
I am interested in this console and playing the Link game. I am not prepared to pay >$500 for one game though…
Honestly, it's worth it. It's the best game ever made.
Got one on launch day. I was planning to wait until at least there was a Mario Kart bundle, but you know.. itchy hands. I'm liking it so far, the few game options doesn't bother me. I only really play one or two games at a time anyway. Playing local 4 player Bomberman really brings back some good childhood memories. Loving Zelda so far too
I think it's the same old adage with most Nintendo systems of late.
If you are a die-hard Zelda/Mario/Smash fan, you'll love it and enjoy it.
Otherwise, there's just no point getting it as you're not going to get all the other great games that are coming out (or at least, they won't be as well developed as on other consoles). With all the great content coming out elsewhere, I think it's a hard argument to make for the console. Ideally I think Nintendo should just become a software company and dump their hardware side.
For me, it's definitely not worth the price as you're basically paying ~$200 per game in a way realistically for all the games you'll end up playing on it. However, some some would say it's worth it (Zelda reviews are insanely high and Mario games almost always end up high up there).
Nobody is purchasing the Nintendo Switch for 3 games, if you can only think of Zelda/Mario/Smash, then the console is not for you. You also need to keep in mind that many people who own Nintendo consoles, also own a PS4 / Xbox One or Gaming PC, otherwise have no desire to play more serious games.
The Switch is basically the successor to the 3DS, and can be enjoyed when out and about, or on the big screen when at home. Whilst the Switch is indirectly competing against the PS4 / Xbox One, it is really a different kind of console altogether (handheld / console hybrid).
Don't forget that the 3DS sold over 65 million units worldwide, and that Nintendo is the only notable player in the handheld gaming market (mobile / tablet gaming is a whole different thing). Watch sales skyrocket when Nintendo announces / releases the first traditional Pokemon game that can be played on the big screen.
If the Switch incorporates 3D like 3DS did I think it would be great
I personally haven't used the 3D functionality in years, noticed that Pokemon Sun / Moon didn't bother with it, not sure about recent Nintendo first party games.
they left out the cameras which is a huge shame
Can you explain this further? It doesn't allow you to play any 3DS games or Wii U games.
Additionally, the upcoming games list for it in 2017 is pretty abysmal… I mean, you could take it out and about to play a handful of games, or you could just buy a 3DS and have access to a tonne more games for way cheaper.
It really doesn't make any sense to get this console except for a few exclusives. Feel free to add Pokemon to my list, but that's about all you're going to get out of it..
I finally open my wii u to play BOTW i will get a switch once Mario Odyssey is released. I tried the switch out and impress by it.
Honestly it's hard to form an opinion on the switch without actually using one.
You have a lot of viral videos and posts online at the moment showing the faults of the device, and reviews giving it only like 7/10.Then you have the polar opposite, the thing I notice most about Nintendo fanboys is that they are EXTREMELY defensive and will forgive anything nintendo does badly (a LOT of people saying 'oh who cares if you cant transfer save files, you're only going to be playing on that switch anyway' is only one example).
Anyway, I am a PC gamer (Running SLI 1080 and 6700k) but I love tech stuff and I thought the fact that I could play the Switch on TV and take it out of the dock and continue playing it on the go, that was amazing to me.
People keep saying it's too expensive, but those people are comparing it to a Ps4 and XB1 which are years old, and don't have a screen built in so you can play it on the go. Or a 3DS or Vita which aren't able to double as a home console.
I'm happy with it so far. I've never played a Zelda game before, and the game is pretty campy but it's good.
A lot harder than I expected. But yeah, the device is good. If you don't like Zelda then wait for other games to come out. But I am happy with it, a lot better than I expected.
I understand the concept. But i wouldn't pay more than $200 for it. It's old old tech. The only thing going for it is it has ONE killer app (Zelda). But nothing else. The console is weaker than a PS3. The graphics for Zelda looks like it was made in 2007, not 2017.
Weaker than PS3 how? Some evidence of this please and not just you not liking the art style in zelda.
With regards to opinions on the switch, for me it's a wait and see. Unless you're a huge zelda fan, its hard to justify paying the premium of being a first adopter.
If the games start coming for it then it'll be great, if it's another WiiU then its a failure…..
The theory is that since the switch is a console/handheld it will have the whole focus of nintendo's games development behind it instead of their departments splitting their focus. Will believe it when the games actually start coming.
I actually like the concept. It's essentially a tablet console like the PS Vita, with a easy to use TV dock. But it's another underwhelming technical achievement by Nintendo. They should've just focused on the tablet, increased the screen real estate instead of having the ugly thick bars around to increase it to a 7" or 7.5" screen and made it 1080p. You can get 1080p tablets these days for $100-200. 720p 6" with thick bars around is a joke. It's not 2010.
Then I'd accept the weak GFX chip. You can sell me on mobile gaming device weaker than a PS3, but not on a proper TV console weaker than a PS3.
The cheap 1080p tablets though wouldn't have the graphical power to run the games that people would like to see on the console though.
Imagine that its probably a trade off between final price of the console and the performance.
Me personally I'm waiting for them to put out something like a Switch Pro which does full hd some time in the future like they always seem to do now these days with their handhelds.
Still not convinced its weaker than a PS3 though? Did you mean PS4?
That zelda game was for wiiu. It's art style was intended for that hardware but they disabled the cool stuff of dual screens because the switch couldn't do that.
In essence, they dumbed down the stellar wii u game so that they could sell more switches
It's DOA but don't let the Nintendo fanboys tell you otherwise. Its got no games, its flagship titles is on wiiu and runs better on it, Gimmicks never last, old gen hardware with no third party support is a recipe for disaster.
I would probably think the Switch was marketed pretty smartly and hit viral trend at the right time for when it was released. Which means it will be interesting to see how it fares after 6 months when people usually get bored of the current trend and find something else to jump on to.
Nintendo seem to have taken a leaf out of Apple's book in regards to their pixel policy. Would be interesting to know how people fare here in Australia with exchanges.
The design of the dock does seem to be an issue though, scratching the screen after a few uses. Pity those parents that hadn't thought about getting a screen protector first
In the mean time I'll give Zelda a go after I finish playing Horizon, which is fantastic!
If you enjoy playing tired rehashed children's games on devices that are underpowered, poorly designed and overpriced, then you should go for it OP
As opposed to poorly designed and overpriced violent metaphors for internal rage on rehashed PC's?
I purchased it day one, had none of the issues that a select few are complaining about. The console definitely feels quality to me, despite its plastic consruction. I feel like I almost got my money's worth from Zelda already. It's a massive game and I feel like I'll still be discovering new things about it over the next year.
For anyone hesitating to purchase, I'd say go ahead, if you are a true gamer (not just a Zelda fan) you will definitely enjoy Zelda. Although it is unlike any Zelda before it, it has recieved constant praise and 10/10s across every review I've read and I would have to agree. This is shaping up to be one of Nintendo's best games.
While the system is not as powerful as an Xbox or PlayStation, I think it is a worthy trade off for what you get in return; a system that can be thrown in a bag and taken on the road with less compromise than a traditional hand held system, all while having two player capability out of the box. The screen is beautiful, the 720p resolution is great on the screen size, doesn't look pixelated at all to me. (I'm a PC gamer primarily, used to playing on a 1440p screen)
I think this will be a great success for Nintendo, as shown by the current opening sales, which will also help to drive third party support, you won't be disappointed.
My opinion is that it is expensive but worth it. Zelda is very worth it. Dock undock experience was seamless. No problem.
My verdict is it is worth having.
However, in Zelda when you dock to tv, fps can drop noticeably esp when lots of enemies or moving environment.
So the only issue would be if u have fps drop on zelda then chances are games with high fps need wont be good to play using switch
Instant buy if it gets Monster hunter, wont buy it otherwise. Preferably in good resolution and without frame issues in undocked mode. The flexibility of being able to get it on my monitor or take it on the train is a big plus for me, also.
MXX announced, looks like I'm getting a switch.
Smh @ people who complain about there being no games to play. Why buy the frickin' console on launch if you think that way? Why not just wait till your preferred games are released and then buy the darned thing?
because the price won't drop much maybe
Got it for Zelda. Loving it, but gee I hope there's more games soon as Zelda won't last forever.
I still haven't seen a demo machine in any games stores of the Switch. Has anyone seen one?
There are none… yet.
EB Games Swanston Street will renovate their "Nintendo Experience" portion of the store to replace the Wii U demo kiosks with Switch ones, but it won't happen until a few months later.
Massive fan of Nintendo. Currently playing BotW which is phenomenal, however I'm playing it on the Wii u.
I'll definitely be picking up a Switch at some point, likely when there are a few more games and some solid deals coming through. Probably around Christmas or just after.
Very eager to see what they announce at E3, they should gave some big announcements as we have very little information for the holiday season and into 2018.I've had none of the issues - left joycon sync, dock scratching screen, dead pixels etc. I did add a screen protector yesterday just in case (I usually don't use them)
I've found 1 2 switch is good with my daughter, found BotW is great. I honestly thought I would be playing it on the TV most of the time, but it has definetly spent most of its time in handheld mode.
Used tabletop mode for the first time last night playing snipperclips with my wife, also a great game and the mode suits it's purpose.
Is it worth $450? To some people that's going to be a flat out no. For our family it's going to be hours worth of fun.
I'm not to worried about WiiU rehashes like MK8 seeing as the WiiU is the first Nintendo console I haven't owned so they're welcome for me.
I have had the XB1 since launch, haven't had the chance to play it as much lately, but the Switch is pick up and 10 seconds later you're into a game.
Already nintendo is having sluggish sell because you can buy better console than this. I would wait until next year with fixes and more games and probably cheaper.
Yep just keep on waiting. .. and waiting. .. and waiting. .. just like the wii u
The switch should simply have been the new "3DS", with over 60 million sold globally it has a huge customer base.
While the switch is marketed as a "home console / portable", it's essentially a glorified Nvidia shield tablet with a HDMI output.Nintendo charge premium prices because they can get away with it, the childhood nostalgia of Super Mario alone resonates with almost every person on the planet and while I love reliving these memories, I don't believe $469 for a glorified tablet is reasonable.
I'm also a person who likes simplicity, I couldn't care for "joy-con" or gimmicky motion control games, give me a pro controller and a quality console and I'm happy, hence I'll be sticking with my PS4.
Have they said if you will be able to backup your save games yet.. if you are going to be RMA'n consoles then you have to start again…. anyone have the dock scratching the screen issues.
I picked up zelda on wiiu until the games catalogue is there then I'll be hanging back to see how it plays out.
I believe saves are stored locally with no ability to transfer to SD or cloud
if i was interested in buying a switch this would be a deal breaker for me
suppose your switch is stolen or breaks down ALL game saves will be wiped? crazy there is no memory card or cloud backup
They need to have more demos in the shops. Hard to make a proper "buy" decision without holding one in the hands and playing a game.
Overpriced poorly designed junk.
Exactly…
Zelda is incredible and I'm having more fun on the switch than i have since the ps one and the N64. It's fresh and it works.
A real Ozbargainer will wait for good deals and avoid paying the launch price and beta testing new products. Well that is excluding those rare super launch deals.
I was gifted on last week for my birthday, and promptly sold it on GT as I had no intention of using it. Can't understand why they released the console with only 1 decent game.
Had 50+ queries within the ~24 hour period (the most I'd received for anything listed for sale) it was advertised for, so there's a decent demand for the unit for now.
how much did u sell it for?
$500 inc. the Zelda game.
Question on this. I'm closer to taking the plunge get but concerned about cost. Can you still trade in Wii games? If so I'm guessing you get about 5$ each or something? Does JB do it or is EB the only game in town? I can't seem to find reliable numbers anywhere.
You call up jb for the trade values.
it's a bit sad the wiiu was replaced so soon, but i felt the switch was a bit rushed.
correct me if iam wrong but every nintendo console (except for the nes) came out with its version of mario kart?
seeing the switch just got an updated version of 8 just shows there wasn't enough time to develop a another title.
