New to The Xbox One Scene

Hey guys,

Just jumped on the Xbox One bandwagon as the recent offers were too good to miss. My last console was a ~6 year old phat PS3 which died a sudden death one day. I was quite surprised that it took me a good hour (and more) to install my first game (Halo 5), especially when I could just pop a disc in and immediately play a game on the PS3. Not complaining though, Halo 5 is awesome so far! Currently downloading Halo: MCC to play from the start… 4Mbps download speeds aren't fun though. :(

Also, where do you guys usually get your games from? I've been looking at Ozgameshop for new games, and eBay/Gumtree for 2nd hand games. Am I missing any other popular shops/sites?

i been in the xb1 scene for a while now and find myself buying all digital titles on xblive just for the convenience of not having to get up n change the disc believe it or not…
Not saying to pay full price of $99 per game but every week xblive has deals with gold which AAA games are usually 60% off…. Even making a stupid choice of buying game twice even just coz got it on disc and wanting it on digital making the deals + dlc deals so hard to refuse….lol
    happy gaming!

    • How long do you digital downloads usually take? It takes me more than a day or so to DL stuff >50gb…

      • I managed to get the Halo 5 50GB patch in under an hour last night. iiNet HFC :)

        • It took me more than a day or so to download Halo MCC (~60gb). Makes me a little wary of buying digital downloads in the future. :(

the sites you listed are perfect!

if your really cheap tho you can also rent games from russians.. they basically give you an account to use for a month xD its nice when your desperate but wouldnt recommend it any other time

If you can be bothered, set your machine offline then pop in your disc to install. After that's done, go back online to update.

I'm a goose who plays pretty much just offline (no internet at home, only hotspot my phone, olskool gamer that didn't realise online was so important). Envious of Xb gold, EA access, and the other subscriptions that are much much better value.

There are lots of bargains posted for xbone digital download keys on places like cdkeys.com, like Halo MCC for less than 10 bucks:

EA Access for $35 or so for 12 months… Better than buying second hand versions

XB live gold of course, claim the games you want each month

And as above, jump on any cheap deals from CD keys :)

Yeah, heard all about EA Access and XB Live Gold. Gonna get on it once there's a decent offer on both!

  • It's a little surprising to me that you bought an Xbox One given that you were a PS owner previously. Were there some Xbox only titles that you particularly wanted?

I had the very first version of XBox, and loved the first Halo. Always wanted to play the Halo series again.

And also, the Xbox One S was much cheaper than the PS4 Pro. :x

PS4 Pro & One S aren't comparable products unfortunately. Primarily the PS4 slim v Xbox One S is. Scorpio will be the Pro competitor.

I bought my One primarily for Halo and to try out since I had the 360, but for me it was never something i got in to :(

Also used Ozgameshop for games, and even g2play for a while until I found out about their perception by most people and they're apparently quite dodgey. Otherwise i did a lot of digital purchases via the console using the gold discounts as mentioned by someone else

  • YMMV, but try EB Games/JB for prowned games too. Given it's been a few years since launch, you can usually get some really good games for under $20.
