Is My Dyson DC45 Worth Fixing?

Hi,

my Dyson dc45 died today. It was bummer as it was out of warranty by 2 months

The call centre person said it's best to bring it in for service but it will cost $45 + delivery fees to get it looked at and repairs may cost up to $200.

I see the V6 slim is on sale for $299? Would that be a better idea?

She said the V6 slim is more powerful but the attached head is smaller. Does any one know if the suction head on a dc45 fit the v6?

thanks

why would you buy another Dyson, if the first one went 2 months out of warranty and they won't help you at all ?

seems you are rewarding a bad product with more of your money?

    backwards?

What is the problem with your vacuum?

If it is only 2 months out of the factory warranty, then press Dyson to fix it under ACL laws. It would be more than reasonable for a $400 vacuum cleaner to last more then 2 years.

Dyson just want you to pay huge money for repairs, (seriously $250+ to fix a $400 machine?), or to buy a new one. Don't let them tell you what your options are. Tell them what you want, it fixed free under ACL laws.

  • Firstly 2 months out of warranty is still plenty of time for them to fix it

They will fix it under the ACL
Make sure you escalate it with fair trading, I went via Fair trading QLD

I had my Dyson out of warranty by nearly 1 year get repairs for free based on the fact it should have lasted at least 5 years and basically fair trading deemed them to have to repair it for me, Dyson were very nice and compliant, a huge difference to their support team flatly and rudely saying NOT covered

Ironic once you involve fair trading over an issue that the company becomes very compliant and happy to help

Please do fight it, a company should repair an item that you have paid good money for

5 years would be fair in my eyes for a repair, but do get a case lodged, Keep all your dyson support interactions to give to fair trading
    They need to comply.

  • Thanks Guys.. I'll speak to their service team abou this then and see what they say

  • Check the battery - I was about to bin our DC35 when I thought I would take a punt on the battery, it was $45 on eBay and it was back to (near) new ! ;-)

jason, ACL would have covered you and for free

  • Updates?

    • oh sorry, didn't see this comment.. the lady on the phone who took down my case initially said it's not covered by warranty as it's past 2 years.. I got a call the other day that it was fixed and they did it under warranty… Basically they just gave me a new machine so I'm quite happy with their service

      • Haha good outcome then. Good that you didn't have to resort to threats of consumer law.

  • Consumer law in Aus is not that a warranty runs out at midnight on a certain day. The words are like, " reasonable" time frame. I saw that on The Check Out on the ABC. See if you can find that and quote to Dyson.
