  • Hi there,

Don't cancel your current plan with TPG otherwise you will lose your number. Your current number has to be "Active" to port over.
Advise Optus that you are currently with TPG and would like to port over to them. They should organise the port-over.
Ensure that your current plan with TPG doesn't roll-over to the next month, otherwise you will have to fork out for the extra monthly fee, even if you port over to Optus.
You can also communicate with TPG and tell them that you would like to port over to Optus and they will advise.

    Cheers

    • Adding to this. I wouldn't bother contacting TPG until after you have ported over.

You will need to advise Optus of your TPG account number (as they only offer post paid services) to authorise the port.

Call tpg to cancel your plan, I think they either need 30 days notice or before your next billing date, can't remember. TPG will charge you a fee (~$11) for cancelling/port out fee. Then you will have time until your tpg plan ends to port out to Optus.

    • From what I can recall, is that it is illegal to charge a cancellation fee. But TPG calls it an "Administration" fee. LOL

        Lol, that's so stupid >.>

No. In my view, it's a rort with a different title.

    • do they take the $11 out of the $20 deposit we gave them earlier and return the rest?

I'm pretty sure my mum used up the $20 deposit, so I'm not sure sorry.

They have changed it so every time your "deposit" falls below $10 it automatically tops up so there is no way to use up the $20..

        • @Banana: Then I don't think we got the $20 deposit back, and was charged $11…

To reply you in short, they will take $11 + $20 from you. I recently ported 3 numbers out and TPG basically wanted to charge me close to $100 for doing that.

I sent a polite but assertive email to advise them of the porting and also basically said, look I know you will be charging me such and such but according to my research you have had no luck in that if I was to take it up with TIO. They replied saying the matter had be escalated and to give them 24 hours. Twenty four hours later someone emailed back and said they had waived all the fees "out of good will".

Apparently it costs them $40 for complaint TIO received against them so they would rather to charge you the $31 if you show that you are ready to fight for it.

        • thanks for that. how recent was this? I will definitely try this. Should work since I still have internet and 2 mobile plans with them. Just porting one out

        • @trarob: I did exactly the same last August with 2 mobile plans. I got all the money back, no worries.

        • @trarob:
          This was late Dec/Early Jan

        No they don't

But if you call and complain politely, and say you want both amounts in your bank account or you're looking in to TIO and ACCC complaints they will give you back both.

There's a thread on it around here.

Call before you port out and ask them to leave a note on your account detailing the above.

    • If you cancel the plan, the number will be gone!

  • I hate TPG. Last time we disconnect our NBN service, they forfeit our prepayment $20 from the plan mention you cannot not get it back.

Isn't there is a OP post about someone here put it up to Tele Ombudsman to get it back???

Their price now no longer leader in the market I think…
