Prepaid SIM Card in the US

I'll be travelling to the US for a couple of months. I will like to get a US mobile number to receive calls only. Is there a good prepaid SIM card I can get when I am over there that anyone can personally recommend? It does not necessarily need a balance for calls.

    I spent a year there and lived off a trac-phone, pieces of crap but if you're just taking calls and making some they're fine.

      Thanks. I'm a bit confused but can you just buy the SIM card or the whole phone?

        You can just buy the sim, but you have to sign up to a monthly plan. A trac-phone is their equivalent of a prepaid sim, but its with the phone

          So true prepaid is with the phone. (I don't want to be in a contract so I guess SIM only is not an option).
