Hey guys,
I was wondering if there's any good websites to look for cheap flights from la to New York over the next month, looking to fly mid April. Return/one way doesn't really bother me.
Also any sites like ozbargain but for the US?
Thanks guys.

I always use Skyscanner. Cheapest price I can see is $219 one way on April 12th flying Virgin America. Is that cheap?
Look at using points for reward seats if you have them. Redemptions are pretty cheap and taxes are minuscule - I think about $15 when I last looked. a year or two ago.
I use skyscanner. Be careful with their multi-leg flights, as often you'll have to pay for your bag (checked in) twice. Most airlines are $25-35USD per bag.
Try Southwest via their website. 2 bags fly free.
One of these: http://airfare.michaelbluejay.com/searchengines.html
Note that Southwest doesn't appear in the other search engines.
I have found cheap fares for domestic US flights on Kayak.com and Google flights. I normally buy before I leave for the US, so can search in AUD on these sites with a simple change. The trouble with subscription sites is that they send out millions of emails to subscribers, so you may find you are fighting millions of others for the same bargain flight. I would also search for 2 x one way tickets rather than return too - unless you have strong loyalty to one airline.
I once got a domestic US flight for $60au in First class - found on Kayak. Sure it was only LAS - LAX, but it meant I got 2 bags for free and the rare chance to sit in seat 1A :)
As noted above, unless flying Southwest (which would include a stop over), two checked bags will typically cost USD$60 extra. And of course there are 3 major NYC airports, so consider the cost of transport to your NYC accomodation too.
You can often save money too by choosing to stop over en-route. But if doing so, remember that many US airlines oversell flights. So if your connection is missed, you might have a longer than planned wait for another flight at the stop over city.
Based on my experiences I rate Jetblue or Virgin America as beter than UA or AA. I hear DL is marginally better than these though.
