I have a several pairs of shoes (enclosed sandals, work boots, joggers) where their soles have separated but are in otherwise good conditions. I asked a shoe repair man a while back and he quoted $30/pair. Anyone used glue to fix shoes before?

shoe Goo is more of a "rubber" patching material isn't it? (I used to use it back in the 80s/90s when I was a poor skater)
2 pack epoxy polyurethane. The brand name one is called Araldite but there is no benefit in paying for the brand.
$5 at the cheap store.
Follow the directions and all should be well.Other alternative is contact cement. This glue gets applied to both surfaces while they are apart, dries, then you press them together for a permanent bond.
e.g. https://www.stuff4crafts.com/dap-contact-cement3oz-107.html?…In regards to Araldite, Selleys say on there website that it "dries very hard and would not be suitable for use in repairing shoes". As such I would not recommend araldite or any epoxy for this as you lose all flexibility in the shoe and eventually due to repeated strain the glue will crack and give way. Sellys also has a product called "Selleys Shoe Fix" avoid this stuff it is not very good and generally lasts only a short period of time.
My brother used Fuller Max Bond on his work boots, that stuff though dries like a rock though you pretty much lose all flexibility of the shoe however it outlasted the remainder of the boot. Looking online it seems a few people swear by Sikaflex marine &construction adhesive this polyurethane based adhesive seems like good stuff possessing a high strength coupled with high elasticity. In fact any Polyurethane based structural adhesive should offer; high elasticity/ flexibility, high-strength structural bonding and possesses, excellent shock-absorbing and vibration-damping properties in addition to greater Resistant to ageing and weathering exposure compared with other adhesives.
Sikaflex
Don't use Selleys Kwik Grip Horizontal Contact Adhesive
didn't last very long before needing repeat applications.
and yes, I bought it because it was the cheapest contact adhesive
I used Selleys All Fix when I was in high school and got another 6 months out of my shoes.
And I have used construction adhesive (liquid nails) since I had some left over in a tube and that was 4 months ago, the soles are still holding up.
Tarzans Grip, the glue Super Glue wanted to be! Worth buying for the picture on the front!
all this talk of construction adhesives made me realise i've got a couple of cartons of loctite polyurethane adhesive tubes from when masters was flogging them off for $1 ea http://www.loctiteproducts.com/p/pl_ca_prem/overview/Loctite… .
it says waterproof but not meant for water immersion. maybe i should give that a go on a test pair?
edit:
hmm, on the website it says

Anyone used any type of glue to rebuild a worn out rubber sole/heel of runners that has worn down to the side? Just applied the glue directly and filed it down to make it even
Overseas they got something called shoe goo s but they don’t stock it anywhere else :(
Try Shoe Goo, you can get them at Rebels or Cricket Shop
