  • For flights I use google.com/flights

    https://www.google.com/flights/?f=0#search;f=SYD;t=;d=2017-0…

I use Trivago or trip advisor for cheapest hotel sites but go direct to website I don't book thru them.

  • Maybe have a look when Jetstar has their birthday sale in May, they usually have great sales but it wont be travel during peak times.

Also picks up 'hacked' air fares where you fly on different airlines each way that are cheaper than using a single airline return.

I've always used the Skyscanner app on my phone.
    https://www.skyscanner.com.au/

IWTF (I Want That Flight) https://www.ozbargain.com.au/deals/iwantthatflight.com.au
regularly post deals on Ozbargain too.

Don't forget if you can find a cheap price on some dodgy looking online travel agency with bad reviews, you can always do a screenshot, and get your local Flight Centre to price match it. : )

    • Use Skyscanner and IWTF, 9 times out of 10 your cheapest flight will be on one of those two

    • if jetstar fly there you can get them to price beat by 10% also!!

On that route Jetstar will almost always be the cheapest.

Sign up to their newsletter and purchase next time they have a sale on. The cheapest time to go is to avoiding school holidays and public holidays and outside of the Christmas/New Year period.

You will be able to get a return airfare for under $400 excluding baggage in November during a sale, keep in mind that November is also the wettest month but if you have no preference then it doesn't really matter.

Generally discounted prices follow the same cycle yearly so look at some specials for previous years and travel periods and they will be similar this year.

  • I look here of late, daily deals.

Few tips I've used from time to time:

    • Use Incognito/Private modes - prevents cookies from establishing a baseline price that influences future searches
    • Tuesdays (unconfirmed) are good days to do searches due to airlines forecasting actual/planned demand during this time
    • Speaking with agents - some travel agents specialize in providing airfare to certain regions and often have cheaper tickets than websites (who pull data from airline websites)
    • Use a multitude of websites (Skyscanner, Hopper, Webjet, etc.) to verify potential prices
    • Make the decision between one way and return fares - you can save some significant amounts of cash if you opt for one way on certain routes
    • Alternative airports sometimes work out to be cheaper (but remember to get to certain city centres you may have to spend a fortune)

Few considerations I normally take before I start searching.

      Debatable

True. However, return is sometimes cheaper than one way - more common when flying Full Service Carriers (e.g. Cathay) as opposed to budget airlines (e.g. Scoot, AirAsia, Jetstar, Tiger). In other words, check both options!

Agree with your other points though.
