I'm very confused at the moment. I signed up to AMEX Platinum Edge on 8th July 2016. Been loving it so far, great rewards and stuff. Yay.
Recently received a letter to inform me about the changes to the travel rewards, instead of flight it's going to be $200 travel credit - nothing new to anyone here I'd imagine. From what I understood, and what everything I've read has implied, on the 31 March my unused flights will disappear and be replaced by a $200 travel credit, which will expire on my renewal date of 8th July.
Today I contacted AMEX support to enquire as to if I could change my flight to this credit earlier than March 30, as I want to book a hotel which falls under the AMEX travel website. The support person said that no I couldn't do this, and if I didn't use my flight before March 30 then I would lose that flight and would not get any travel credit either. I would have to wait until my next renewal date to get anything. Argued back and forth, but they didn't budge on the issue.
Can anyone confirm or deny these tragic allegations?
Previously I called and enquired about the free flight/travel credit. Similar story ie. if the flight is unused by end of March, then it will be converted to travel credit. Given that you have it in writing (the letter), I reckon it's pretty safe that you will have the travel credit April onwards.
