Roadside Assistance - NSW

Hi,

I'm sure that many other ozbargainers have looked into this, so I am seeking your assistance with Roadside Assistance.

We are just finishing with the $199 NRMA premium roadside assist but am looking for the true differences between their standard offer and the other players in the market!

Any thoughts?

Cheers

Vehicle is a 2009 diesel if that helps.

We cancelled RAA after 20+ years, and went with Allianz.
    $89 per annum, per car.

Actually needed them in the first week, and a mechanic turned up really quickly.

  • Ultratune provides 6months Roadside Assist for free, if you service your car with them.

  • You would not need road side assist if you know how to change a tyre, jump start the car, top up engine oil etc.

    • And what if it's a serious issue a few hundred k's away from civilization? (electric, engine etc.) Would cost heaps to pay the towing out of pocket…

      • Serious issues does not occur every day. How many time has your car broken down few hundred kms away from civilisation?
My current car is 4 yrs old and has done 70k kms. It's never broken down to need towing.
The previous car was about 5 yrs old and 80k kms. Again never required towing.
Again towing for about 200 kms should cost about $500-600 if at all needed.

Unfortunately it has happened to me and I paid big. If I would only drive around town and have friends/family nearby who could tow/help I would not get roadside cover.

  • I'm a uni student and I use roadside assist with Allianz (Prev with NRMA for 3 years) for my old 1998 Toyota Camry because it gives me piece of mind.

I switched to Allianz bc of the price difference. From memory it was about $50 or $60 cheaper for the year.

    • Edit: I used them once the whole year…but saved me big. I was out at a partyy and the car wouldn't start. Turns out, had a starter motor issue. I wouldn't have known how to fix that…(Tires etc I can do)
