I suspect you know little about dash cams and their worth.

        @nizzkid

I think I'll pass. It's worth more than my car. :)

      • +1

I m using a $50 dashcam, it is crispy and smooth. Functions are similar.
Plus I bought the complete insurance.
        Driving without stress.

        • Buy what you can afford dude, Blackvue makes the best looking dashcam and the extra sharpness of higher end model can go a long way when you find yourself in such situations.

        • @mcp2kpro: meaning it it can read number plate 200m away at night?

        • +1

@lgacb08: My Blackvue can't. 1080p is too low resolution. I can only see number plates clearly if I'm right behind them. Forget being able to read anything at night.

we have a $50 dashcam. crispy and smooth during the day. but it's really bad at night. we couldn't even see the cops leaning against the wall with a lidar on cumberland hwy.

        • +1

@whooah1979: Yep, same performance. As others have admitted, you're spending extra for the cosmetic appearance of the dashcam.

        • +1

@mcp2kpro: I believe everyone can afford the price. But it is just not worth it.

I m just presenting my opinion, am I allowed?

        • @mcp2kpro:

Not mentioning the extra sharp thief eyes.

        • +1

@lgacb08: if I said yes, would you justify the price and bite the bullet?

        • +1

@pzhon: of course you can, never said you shouldn't.
Everyone has their own justification on ozb items. Hence I said, buy what you can afford. Don't spend just because it's on sale.

@mcp2kpro: even a dlsr would struggle with such a task, don't be such a delusional

        • +1

@lgacb08: really? why would you ask such delusional question then?

    • hahahaha

  • This is amazing value!

Cheapest ever on the DR650, only if I had the money.

Bought the DR650-2H for $400 2 years ago. Not worth it IMO. The phone app is slow to connect and a gimmick. You also have to use specific micro sd cards. I regret not buying a cheap china dashcam instead.

    • +8

I don't know man, maybe if you did actually bought a cheap chinese dashcam, you may also regret not getting a better one cos it's ugly AF

      • There's plenty of dashcams that look similar to this model. The Mini family in particular is full of them and are considerably cheaper too.

        • +1

Yet don't handle the australian heat anywhere near as good as the Blackvue
Don't have local support and warranty and usually shit themselves when you do have a crash because they corrupt the SD card
Not to be a fanboy or anything but the money I spent on upgrading / replacing the chinese junk cameras basically equaled what I spent on my 2 Channel DR650 I bought and wired in my company car

So far I have been very happy with quality + features and backed by 100% Australian Support
Also got it for $312.00 delivered with cashrewards

        • @shawncro 222: that's fine. I'm not sure the post I was responding too that called other cams "ugly AF" was presenting a strong discussion point though.

You're a rich fella, at least you have a cool looking dash cam ;)

Yeah, I went for a cheap Chinese dashcam. Dome DAB201, it give descent video at 1440p.

After some research, I decided to get a cam built with Ambarella A12 chipset.

I spent $90 for a kit with Toshiba 64GB U3 rated TF card + car mount + power adapter to car battery + cigarette adapter. (vs $130 on eBay just for the cam).

Yes, it gets quite hot to touch but lucky it survived Victoria's summer 2016/17, no self-restart or hang so far.

The only issue so far is windscreen reflection but that is common to all dashcam. Going to mount a CPL filter on it by DIY. If that doesn't work then I might consider dash mat.

      Mine has been flawless
Lasted longer than any chinese junk on the market
You pay for local support and warranty
      App works fine for me
      Never had a single drama

  • +3

Damn, thought it was a Carousel Slide projector from the photo.
    (I feel old). lol

    • +2

      You're not alone

  • +3

A118 is a fantastic dash cam and on my Mazda 3 it looks part of the windscreen sensors

  • too bad they don't sell the 2ch version

  • Sold out now

  • Out of stock

  • Get the Viofo A119 + GPS instead .. only $100 when it was on sale last time

  • i've moved away from blackvue after all their overheating issues (had mine replaced under warranty)
thinkware is where it's all (but then again, you are talking a different price range once you move into that)
you pay for what you get though =)

price is extremely cheap compared to the days when it was ~400

  • Would I be able to add the rear camera to this later on, or can it only support single channel?

    • no. you'd need to get the 2CH
