    really? i never subscribe. I live on YouTube most of the day so i dont want my feed cluttered with ads. Also, do they actually check and are you then required to (a) not only subscribe but (b) maintain that subscription for the entirety of the comp and until the draw? Seems unlikely to me

      They can definitely check if you are subscribed, I have seen contests drawn live on YouTube.
      
      The drawer of the contest checked that each person they selected as a winner still had a valid subscription to each of the selected entries. When they found that people had unsubscribed, they selected another winner.
