My 11yo son is wanting a car and only has $70 to spend. He wants it to be fast and go on grass so 4x4 would be good. He likes this type and is considering this one http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/SUBOTECH-BG1510B-1-24-2-4GHz-Full… should he be looking at something else?
Best Radio Control Car under $70?

Ahhh, I remember my first RC plane and Cars and Boats even as a bratt.
That car listed is just a toy, yes it will do basic RC car and 4WD style stuff, but it is not very good. Repairs for that type also, will be nigh on impossible. At $70-$80, nothing new will be very good. A half decent very basic real RC Transmitter starts at the $200 min.Hit the Gumtree, Trading post etc, Ebay for real RC cars 2nd hand, from someone in the same situation, but for their son that has grown out of it.
BEST. Or, hit up RC Forums and Clubs. They always have the best info and the goss on 2nd hand stuff and way much more help and info than you will ever need, as well as all the bits to get ya boy on the grass.
Now, my boy has a 2nd hand 4x4 off roader, gas powered, for a few months(I do not exactly the story where it came from - which is why it is still unused) sitting here. I will ask the question for you, and send info if it becomes available. It was I believe around the $150?? mark mentioned……..not sure. If gas powered and not electric is in your wish list.
Guys thanks for the advice but he wants a toy, he doesn't want to be a hobbiest, nor does he want to fix things. Normally if toys break they go in the bin. He just wants the best for what his money can buy, a bit of fun while it lasts.
It's a bit difficult to recommend a 'good' RC 4x4 in that price range because most of your decent brands start around the $150 mark - but it's a first RC car for an 11 year old so horses for courses.
At that price, I'm not sure how you'll go for spare parts when you need them (note, when not if), if you can find them there'll likely be a wait time while it's shipped over. If that doesn't concern you then go for it, if it does perhaps take him for a visit to your nearest hobby shop and show him what an extra $70 - $80 will get him :)
