Mexico to Melbourne - One Way!

Hello,

Does anybody know the cheapest way to fly from Mexico (anywhere) to Melbourne NOT VIA the USA (not eligible for Visa Waiver and normal visa takes 3 months to process.) It needs to be within the next month or so. It will be a ONE WAY ticket.

I have tried - MEX-YVR-CTU-MEL
MEX-YVR-HKG-MEL
MEX-YVR-SIN-MEL

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

  • what did u do?????

  • Have you tried scanner sites like skyscanner.net? You'll have to weed out the itineraries involving US airports, and of what's left YVR is probably a given. Good luck. GF or reli coming over?

    • Yes, I have have had a look. I was more looking for cheaper routes maybe via South America or something? Yeah a good, ol' reli coming over :)

      • I thought maybe that too, but SA is actually further east than Mexico so the distance would be further. But who knows maybe there's the odd deal via Santiago de Chile or Buenos Aires. Or maybe via Europe but that would be very long.

        • The length of the journey is not important. Price and avoiding the USA is more important haha. This person would sleep on a clothes line haha.

Will you need a visa to land in the USA if you are simply using it to swap to a different flight? If you are travelling through you stay in the international terminal and never enter US land, so will not need a visa?

Or am i on the completely wrong track here?

    • Yeah, you need a visa to transit the states. At least, I did.

    • You need a transit C-1 visa for Mexicans.

    • That's how the civilised world works. In the US, all entries pass through immigration.

  • I'd guess you either need to get to Canada or Chile.

  • There are direct flights between Buenos Aires and Melborne.
One way from memory is around $1000 to $1100 AUD.
Is transiting via South America an option?

Air NZ may be worth considering.

    EG:
    - Buenos Aires (EZE) 24.03.17 to MEL via Auckland $1,108 USD

If you can't get a visa waiver, then what about a transit visa?

    https://travel.state.gov/content/visas/en/other/transit.html

I transited through Auckland Airport on the way to USA and never needed to clear any customs or immigration, but I did a quick Google search and apparently it doesn't work that way in USA, so I can see your problem.

If a transit visa isn't feasible then I think you can do it with two bookings from CHC to YVR and then Sichuan Airlines on 6-7 March for about 1000 AUD…

    • Wow that is super cheap. They need to get their ETA for Canada too. Will look into it. Cheers :)

    • Hey,

Thanks for looking for us. We ended up going with the longer route haha. Thanks for your help!

      Hey,

Thank you so much. We ended up booking the route that you suggested. We are really happy. THANK YOU :)

Awesome so glad it was helpful to you.

Did you select a departing flight from London with enough time to transfer from Gatwick to Heathrow? Apparently there's shuttle buses for £20. There's a risk if the Thomas Cook flight is late your relative may not get to Heathrow in time.

You know, the option via London is only three flights but the other option with Sichuan is four because it includes an internal flight in China. Both options leave CUN Monday night and I think it's good you chose the one that arrives early on Thursday morning instead of Thursday afternoon.

        • Hey, we booked the other one that takes forever but that means that I will have finished work and will be at the airport waiting. In total it was $1000 but would have been $940 without the credit card fees. It's a long time to fly but it's cheap and has everything that we need. I am happy because I am not the one flying just the one paying haha.

          Thanks once again.

        • @robb2002: Alright cool. You may need to sort out a Chinese and Canadian visa though.

@inherentchoice: We've got the Canadian travel authorization. For China, you don't need a visa if you enter and leave China within 24 hours. You must travel from Country A (Canada) into China and have a ticket on to country B (Australia) which leaves within 24 hours. It is determined by the scheduled arrival and departure time. Everything is good to go. Thanks for your help once again :)
