NBN - MyRepublic v Teleron v TPG v Internode?

I am on Optus Cable now and NBN will be installed soon. The letter I got from NBN seems to indicate that I will be disconnected once NBN is installed?

Anyway, just wondering who to choose between MyRepublic, Teleron, TPG or Internode?

$75 max for maybe 100-200GB at 100/40 hopefully but I am not too concerned about speed as long as it's not too slow.

MyRepublic's review seems mixed, some are really happy but some have a lot of trouble connecting. Anyone with Teleron? People seems happy with Teleron on whirlpool but not many people at the moment.

  • I'm with My Republic and have not had one issue. I get 94 down and 34 up.

Depends what area you are in, some areas have Optus NBN congestion (My Republic use Optus).

    Where are you located?

If you want constant reliability, I would recommend SkyMesh. They are awesome.

    • I am in Doncaster East, VIC. Skymesh not available in my area unfortunately. I know a lot of people on my street uses Optus Cable, so may be they will switch to Optus NBN.

      • Fair enough, I'd sign up with My Republic month to month plans. If you have any issues you can jump. Depends if you want to save money and go with a gamble.

Tried MyRepublic, PLENTY of issues. Had trouble connecting from the start and went downhill from there, the support center are inundated (25min+ wait) and clueless.

    Check them out here http://www.productreview.com.au/p/my-republic.html

I cancelled after they couldn't get my connection working for 3 weeks….they still hadn't figured what it is, nor sent anyone out to look at.

    • Who are you with now?

      • I'm looking for another provider :S

Leaning towards http://www.tangerinetelecom.com.au/ but not sure

You're better off going with Internode/Skymesh. Otherwise you will have the same problems all over again.

        • @apptrack: wouldn't recommend internode to anyone anymore. And your wait time on the phone to them is usually longer then 25th minutes. A sad shell of a once great isp

        • @tassieeagle: I never experienced that when I was with them, then again I only called once in two years because it was so reliable.

        • @apptrack: I was with them for 10 years until I changed to myrepublic. Their customer service dropped off a lot in the last few years (takeovers)

        • @tassieeagle: Fair enough, each to their own. But then again is it even possible to find the perfect ISP?

        • @apptrack: nope didn't think you will ever get that perfect trifecta of great price, solid connection, and great customer service

        • I've never had any problems with Internode, including recently. Unfortunately because of a dodgy Telstra line connection for our ADSL, or modem issues, I have had to ring Internode not infrequently. If there is any waiting time, they offer an excellent phone-back service. You speak to a real person in Adelaide and they follow up to see that any problem has been satisfactorily rectified.

I wish I could talk to someone at Telstra with only a 25 minute wait!

Myrepublic are scum. We got released early thanks to the TIO, but the bastards still disconnected our service early (2 working days, TIO ruled they had to give us 20 working days to find a new provider then disconnect) and made all manners of excuses as to why they disobeyed the TIO's ruling. Stay away!

  • My republic 95 down and 35 up im very happy so far

  • I think myRepublic works great if they get it working from the start, any connection issues and it's a world of pain

    • No it depends what area. Optus have admitted congestion in certain areas.

      • Does that mean area with lot of Optus customers lead to slow connection/speed?

Yes and no. It's a clusterf*ck of a problem. They haven't invested enough in their backhaul.

I have a friend down the road that is with Optus direct, getting 3mbps on FTTP with an Optus supplied modem.

I went into the backend and removed a bunch of settings and it went back up to 80mbps.

I was previously with spintel (optus reseller) and at peak times would get 8…

Switched to my Republic and now get 94 constantly and they are also optus..

I'd go with a solid provider if you're having problems.

        • @apptrack: Thanks. What about modem/router? Do you have one you would recommend for normal home use?

        • +1

          @kcyw: Depends on your budget.

I have a RT-AC668 with Merlin firmware. Gives it more features :). Main reason I got it is for futureproofing. I get 94 down with 5ghz wireless.

          Avoid TP-Link.

  • With MyRepublic. Besides taking just under a month for it to be connected, there hasn't been any problems and constant 95mb down speeds. I'm sure the support is terrible but the product works well.

    • Same, all good until there is problems (I haven't had any). At least there is the TIO.

  • Does anyone know if i order myrepublic NBN when still connected to optus NBN, will i still be able to use my optus NBN up to the date of connection? Im considering the swap, just dont want to go a month without a connection.

Yes if you click New service, and make sure you click do not transfer service or something along those lines. It will be in the sign up form.

  • With MyRepublic. No set up drama (connected on 2nd port). Solid speeds. And best of all - GREAT PRICE

    • My setup was a nightmare, had to sign up three times.. But since then it's all good :)

      • Think I was one of the lucky ones. I did have an existing connection and just got them to put it on the second port, think that helped a lot

        • Yea same, it wasn't My Republic's fault, it was NBN's activation side.

  • Recently signed up with myrepublic, no dramas, relatively quick process and faster speeds than what I was getting before.

  • I am on TPG, easy set up and speed always closed to what I paid for. Service for me was very good, just that it is an international call center.

  • I am with Exetel 100/25. Getting 95/22. Best overall value for 100gb internet and home phone and all calls (Voip). The usual service in general in the industry, which is average, but the secret is to ask for an escalation to a senior technician. These guys get past the pre-determined spiel from the initial operator.

  • Probably going to go down like a lead balloon, but have you considered Telstra. Very expensive and sometimes the Call centre can be difficult. On the positive I get great speed all the time especially to overseas destinations. Telstra have a big chunk of bandwidth available on the overseas trunks, meaning any websites/traffic from overseas is always quicker than opus.

  • Just going to add my experience - I've used three providers. Iinet were mostly fine, Belong (Telstra) were absolutely awful, and Internode have been great for both product & service.

A lot of it comes down to your local infrastructure & congestion (eg whether the provider buys enough bandwidth to service your area). At one stage I had 2 100/40 connections active side by side.. Belong was consistently slower than ADSL1 (no, not joking) while Internode was giving a solid 95+mbps at all times. In my mind that's close to fraud.

It's worth checking speeds after you sign up to make sure the provider is actually giving what you're paying for, particularly in peak times.

  • I can honestly say I was very dubious about switching to My Republic. A lot of reviews painted them in a bad light. But I decided to take the plunge and end my service with Belong. ( the same 100/40mb would have cost me $90 with them). Anyway I signed up with them on Feb 1st and I was connected by Feb 10. Pretty quick judging by other people's experiences. I think it helped that I already had the existing connection with Belong.( this I disconnected after MR activated) I'm getting 95mb down and 30-35mb upload. No complaints here.

  • I'm with Internode and have been for years. (Originally ADSL and now NBN).. I've never had an issue and the odd occasion when ringing support the call centre has been very friendly and helpful English speaking people. Not sure what the call centre is like now because TPG now own Internode (brought out iiNet). Since the change of ownership I personnally haven't had any issues but I am on Fttp so that might be a big factor in the stability.

  • I'm moving into my new property in a six month time. Current plan is Optus Nakedline ADSL2. I get max 3MB speed in geelong suburb. Contract is over. New place I'm moving will have NBN. Should I go for a new contract now or wait for a few months and order a service then?
Main concerns are amount and waiting period for internet to start working at new place.
    Currently paying $70 a month for a $200GB

  • I switched from iinet to Myrepublic on NBN, getting consistent 90mbps+ and I'm in Docklands.
Very happy with the switch as I only have to pay $59/month instead of the $89 and get unlimited data.

  • +1

you wont have to go NBN immediatley.
See what Optus will offer seeing you are already with them.

  • If u are in Sydney postcode 2018 or 2017 area, don't waste your time and money on Myrepublic. Speed is really slow like 7-9 mbps down/ 25-30 mbps up during peak hours.
