Why is it rattan? Water-damage? Is it visible and will it lead to any loss of usability over time?

  (Ignoring the pun and answering this, because it's actually a valid question.)
  
  It's not rattan, it's plastic. And it says aluminium frame in the fine print. It's effectively weatherproof.
  
  The only thing you need to be wary of is that some outdoor furniture have steel frames, which can rust.
