CJ Lancer Cruise Ctrl Not Working, Shift Stucked at "P"

Hi guys, two days ago, I noticed my CJ Lancer ES 07's cruise control suddenly stopped working, then today the "service required ASC OFF" light came on as per image during driving (possibly from braking)

P/S the cruise light will come on when I press the button, but I can't set the speed nor increase speed

But there's more, today after work, I tried to drive my car, my shift was stucked at "park"! I had to pry open the hole to release the shift to drive! What's going on here?! Why suddenly so many issues happen at one time? I presume they're all related?

Hope this is not an expensive exercise :(

UPDATE: Just realised brake light is not working too, and I check brake lamp fuse and it doesn't look burnt. Other forum tells me it most likely the brake light switch, but anyone if I could change it myself easily?

All the issues are probably caused by a faulty brake pedal switch. Do you normally have to press the brake to put it in drive? Cruise control relies on the brake switch as a safety cut out, which would explain why it doesn't work.

Brake switch would also be why you couldn't get it out of park. It is possible the brake switch is either faulty or possibly gone out of adjustment. My clutch switch went out of adjustment and the cruise stopped working, two minutes and it was working again.

Jimbo & Eiphemistic are technically correct, although generic ECU & Cruise Control functions will need to be diagnosed & confirmed, by a Technician, Mitsubishi or Cruise Control specialist to be sure. You could also read the operation manual with the car but…..as a technician and CC installer for donkeys years, they are on the money, although……..based on your technical writing skill(No offense intended - my experienced observations talking to car owners for 30+ years) you most likely will not be able to replace the Brake Light Switch. Some are 30 sec simple, some are a little more complex.

    • Any idea where the brake switch is? Couldn't find it anywhere online

      • It is mounted in a bracket in the lower portion of the pedal box assembly(centre in front of the drivers seat - under the dash. Once on your back, dead in between the brake/clutch pedal with a torch and look straight up, you will ….should ….see it. Look for the (should be a)4 wire switch mounted horizontally with a push pin facing a rubberized tab on the upper and side of the brake pedal.
