Backing up External Hdd on Mac

Hi all,

Silly question but I'm a little stressed

I have a 1TB seagate external hdd in FAT32 format, but want to reformat in NTFS to transfer over 4gb worth of data

However, I have 200gb of data already on my hard drive and don't want to transfer each file individually. Is there a way or a program that backs up your external hdd?

TIA

  • Can't you just drag and drop files to the mac and do the reformatting?

  • Nope. You're gonna have to gain access to a windows machine or dual boot your Mac?

  • In no way am I mac proficient but this may help

Like an earlier reply - if you can't drag & drop do we have the full story here?

Carbon Copy Cloner. Or you could just drag the contents into a folder on your Mac?

You should probably format it to exFAT - Windows XP is about the only modern OS that doesn't support it out of the box. Macs and NTFS don't play well - you need a 3rd party utility to enable write on NTFS.

Second for Carbon copy Cloner. I use it everyday, works a charm.

  • Fortunately, I had to drag and drop my files to a old external hdd and then reformatting my hdd to a EXFAT. Very tedious but got there. Thanks guys
