Returned The $1000 iPhone 7 Icloud Locked on eBay and eBay Doesnt Refund The Money to Me

Hey everyone.

I have purchased a 256GB iPhone 7 from ebay and when the item arrived it looked good until it turned out to be an icloud locked phone.

I contacted the seller and in the ebay messages seller admitted 3times its icloud locked so they accepted the return.

I sent the phone back with signature on delivery and its been 12days tracking shows its been delivered.

I contacted ebay and asked them why my case is on hold and why you wont refund me and they said as its over $750 we need seller confirmation.

now ebay wont refund me because seller is unresponsive and i have sent them a picture of the parcel i have sent which shows the tracking number and address of the return address ebay requested me to send the item back to there.

now ebay would not refund me. i have sent at least 50emails to them and everytime this is the response i get from them.

"Thank you for your response. Allow me to assist you on this.

Hamid, we appreciate your effort in responding to our email. I have already put the notes in the case about the tracking number's status. Since this is a high value case, we need to you send the item with signature confirmation. Case amount that is above $750 must be sent with signature confirmation. Please send us the receipt of this transaction to prove that you have sent the item with signature confirmation.

I trust that I've explained things clearly and wish you all the best on eBay in the future. Have a wonderful day!

Kind regards,

Evangeline D.

Send them signature confirmation as requested.

Edit: Appears they only want the receipt that shows it was sent with signature confirmation. Easy peasy.

Did you pay with Paypal? Returns and subsequent refunds are very much easier when paid via Paypal.

Yep always paypal - makes things so much easier.

  • It's never done quickly unfortunately. It took over a month to refund money to me.

  • Heck even when selling items you have to wait forever to get your money from them these days. I recently came back to eBay after a long absence (as a seller) and sold a guitar pedal. Sent the item within 24 hours (I was at work when it sold, so sent it the following morning), with registered post. The item tracking said the package was delivered the next day. Yet I had to wait 3 weeks to get my money from eBay. Their reasoning: I "did not meet the requirements for immediate payment". Apparently, if you want to receive payment in a timely manner, you have to post it the same day, offer free postage and print your own eBay postage labels …. what garbage. Haven't been back.

When you sent the package did you send it with signature required on receipt ? It costs abit extra, but what they are asking for is the receipt that you paid for the sending of the parcel that confirms you paid for the signature required part. If you didnt do this, you basically screwed yourself.

  • So you have sent them the correct shipment receipt they are asking for, showing that you paid for signature on receipt? If so all you can do is wait.

I would never purchase a phone like this on eBay. Saving a few hundred dollars is not worth it given the risk. If you buy from Apple/a real store you get a proper warranty, and nobody trying to scam you.

    "icloud locked"?

    Should have bought an android?

    • Android phones don't have any security features to deter resale of stolen phones?

      • +1

they have the same feature as all phones, being blocked from all australian networks once they're reported as stolen

OP you need to relax a bit as 50 emails is too many. You come off looking worse. Even if you are frustrated, keep it together as these things take time and you want to come across as sensible.

    • I think he has the right to be anxious, Ebay is not someone i would willingly trust to rule in my favour with $1000

ever heard of giving them a call

    • If you phone eBay, you don't even have to wait in a queue - choose "call me back" and they call you, immediately in my experience.

  • eBay are useless try calling PayPal

If you're dumb enough to spend that much on a silly phone, you should probably get it from Apple.

  • I was in a similar situation bought an $800 item and was sent a box.
Immediately opened an eBay case, I had to wait 3-4 weeks until I was allowed to return it as the seller was unresponsive and eBay kept giving then more time to "respond".

Item was eventually returned and even then eBay didn't do anything. I ended up finding the sellers business page on Facebook and messaged him saying I would start calling his work everyday until I was refunded, money was return immediately LOL.
