Proving Address for New Mobile Phone Plan?

I'm wondering if anyone has any experience with this -

I recently started renting a new place, and signed up for a mobile phone plan, giving my new address. Now they are asking for ID, but I can't prove my address as I've just moved in. I'm a sub-tenant, so not on the lease, on the bills, etc..

Any ideas? I'm thinking of somehow cancelling/withdrawing my initial application then just applying again using my old address as, legally speaking and in terms of proof of address, that's where I live.

  • Not quite sure if it works for phone plans, but I'd probably ask your bank for a bank statement with the changed address (then change the address back on your bank) if that works?

    • I think i'll give this a shot - I don't think I can request a statement from my bank but I should soon be getting a monthly one from a credit card.

  • Can't you change the address on your licence/ID and then use that?

    • Unfortunately the proof of address requirements are pretty hard for a driver's license, especially if you are a sub-tenant.

  • Get a new driver licence. Sign up to the plan at a later date.

  • You could cancel and reapply and they wouldn't know. I did the same after Telstra did this to me twice - request id check in store, i do that, i call back and they say "we can't find your ID check do it again". 2 weeks later fluffing around I just cancelled and reapplied and 2nd time no ID check.

    • I'm definitely considering this, thanks.

legally speaking and in terms of proof of address, that's where I live.

Wouldn't that be making a false and misleading statement in terms of where you live legally speaking?
