  You know that you can get digital oscilloscopes that use your PC, tablet or smartphone, and function generators based on microprocessors these days? Cheaper and more compact than the traditional forms.

    Unless it's an NI Elvis board or excellent ADC ($$$$). They're all rubbish. Then again, I'm just spoilt and prefer precise instruments. Use to do this for a living

      while the quality probably isn't as good as it was 20 years ago the price reflects it but they are getting better. prob the same crap they try and sell here locally but with 200% markup

  Fun. :) What are you looking at making or studying? Logic analysers are the newish digital ubertool and fit into a drawer more conveniently. It depends on the purpose but they are pretty cool. You can also program the cheap MCU experimenter boards into simple test devices…the STM F4 Discovery has a 7+ MSPS ADC onboard.
