MSI GeForce GTX 1070/1080 Sea Hawk EK X $460USD/680USD ($600AUD/$880AUD) + $30 USD postage + Free Game @ Massdrop

80

Best price I've come across for the MSI GeForce Sea Hawk EK X 1080 model.
Current price is $1250 in PLE, or $1200 in PC Case Gear (+ postage if not in VIC)
This price works out to be approx $900 (including postage).

Only downside is, offer closes in 8 days and your card gets charged at the end of the deal (e.g. at the end of the 8 days).
Item is expected to Ship March 17th, so it's not a quick shipped item either.
Unsure if group buys are allowed on here please let me know if this goes against any rules as this is my first posted deal.

Foot note, deal needs to make 10 sales for the drop to actually go through, if there is not 10 orders by the end of the 8 more days. The drop gets cancelled and all pending charges etc removed.

EDIT:

At checkout you need to specify which card you want, if you want the 1070 it shows as $460 USD, if you want the 1080 you need to specify option 2 (+ $220 USD) to select the 1080.
Free game offer, to the best of my knowledge is emailed out as a code, and instructions on website to redeem.
The $20 rebate mentioned in the offer is US residents only.

2nd EDIT:

1070 model - $706 AUD (just over $600 AUD from drop)
https://www.ple.com.au/Products/624714/MSI-GeForce-GTX1070-S…

1080 model - $1250 AUD (just over $900 AUD after shipping from drop)
https://www.ple.com.au/Products/624419/MSI-GeForce-GTX1080-S…

Free Game is either "For Honor" or "Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon - Wildlands" with Season Pass

NOTE: Probably my last edit, I have heard throughout different rumours and such that it's POSSIBLE a 1080Ti is on the cusp of being revealed on February 28th.
If you are not sure about joining this drop, perhaps keep an eye out for it.

Isn't mass drop the place that takes forever to ship items? I heard up to 2 months.

    • If you read the deal, yes it's a group buy scenario.
A bunch of people put money into a group buy, known as a "drop" which gets them a discount from the supplier.
At the moment, if the drop goes ahead (e.g. 10+ people buy into it).
Then it is expected to ship March 17th, so a month from now + however long the post man takes.

      • it shops in march, we get it in may.
once ordered from massdrop and it took 2 months to come after the drop finished and was shipped.
        never again.
saved around $70 from aussies prices.

this price is only slightly cheaper after the 20% sales

All Massdrop related items i've purchased generally arrive within 1-2 weeks.

        • +1

@nicholsonr: The estimated ship date is usually further than 1-2 weeks for items I've bought but it has always been quite accurate in my experience.

When it does ship I've never had delays, always gets here in 1-2 weeks.

        • @eecan:

Even if for any reason there is a 1080Ti announce etc etc.
I still personally think this is a great deal for a great card.

By the time you get it another deal will be on OzB for $500/$800.

    • Probably less since the 1080 ti could be out by then (I've heard a late March release).

      • All depends if they release a 1080Ti or start working on the new Volta range.

I paid $300 for my 670, strange to see $600 is considered a deal on the 1070.

    • +1

      Yes, and add shipping!

    • +1

Nvidia has no competition from AMD on the high end so they can charge whatever they want.

Considering the RRP, it's a good price but shipping time kills it IMO.

      • $30 for shipping kills a $300 saving?
edit: just realised you meant time-wise.

        I'm in no rush.

        • No, waiting 2 months for the card kills the $300 saving!

edit: saw your edit ha. I'd rather wait for the 1080ti to release and then see if there are price drops rather than putting money on a card now

        • @jzdhgkd:
          Just over a month.
Also are you that impatient you would rather spend $300 more than wait?

        • @nicholsonr: I am definitely impatient when it comes to luxury items such as this. I already bought the 1070 in September last year so you can tell how impatient I truly was ;)

By the way, for massdrop also add another 3-4 weeks from time of shipping - hence my initial post saying 2 months rather than 1 month

        • +1

          @jzdhgkd:
In my experience Massdrop shipping (to my address, Metro WA) is 1-2 weeks TOPS.
Guess you must be impatient to have grabbed the 1070.
My 780Ti is still on par with a GTX 980, so I didn't want to make the jump till it was worth the performance.

        • +1

@jzdhgkd: I have ordered over 20 items from Massdrop and have never had to wait 3-4 weeks for the shipping component.

    • +1

Well it is twice as good as the 670 :p

Our dollar is pretty balls right now. I paid $400 for my 970 about 2 years ago now.

  • Dates significant to indicate 1080ti announcement / release? :p

Looks like February 28 announcement available march

      • Most people expected it to show in CES in January.
At this point I'd personally think they are working on or perhaps showing, the newer architecture in the works.
If they show a Ti model, I could perhaps overclock this card to a potential Ti boost clock unless they did other changes to streaming cores etc.

  • To me spending more on a GPU core watercooler is pretty close to pointless in the case of the GTX 10** series because it seems like most users get to ~2000Mhz and then no one gets much past 2100Mhz. So you're adding it to get 5% faster at best which is unnoticeable.

    • I already have a custom water loop for my existing 780Ti, having this block means I don't pay more for a block, it's guaranteed to have warranty (as existing cards you take the coolers off voids warranty) and I can push it a bit further overclock wise to give me longer lifespan on the cards performance.

    • isn't only about clocks
me for example made a loop for the ultra quiet computer that i cant hear unless i put my ear to it :)

      • True, but since I have a water loop, it's fairly quiet to start with, and it's built into a custom desk as well so :D

        • nice im a student so i need mine portable incase i need to move (get it incase :V ) was acually meaning to the other guy

        • @AliensStoleMyMoney:
I kinda wish I went portable now.
I can't because the built in desk was so big it arrived on a pallet, and the glass top is approx 20-30kg :/
But the 780Ti i'll take out of this PC when I upgrade to the 1080 will be put in a portable LAN PC :D

        • @nicholsonr:
im wiaiting for a 1080ti then im selling my 980ti (got it for free with the block xD) and ill be getting a raspberry pi 3 for a media centre /twitch/optus epl box :D

        • @AliensStoleMyMoney:
Keep in mind it does not do well as a NAS.
It can't serve decent transfer speeds.

I have a Raspberry Pi 2B model (same 10/100 port as the Pi 3). Using a USB to Gigabit adapter barely get 20 megabytes per second.

Edit: Back on topic I am potentially considering cancelling my participation in this 1080 group buy if a 1080Ti IS around the corner, just maybe

        • +1

          @nicholsonr:

thats ok i only get 10 down where i live #australian internet :( . thatb eing said with the pi 3 people are getting well above the 20magabyte on the inbuilt pi3

although apparently there is a high chance that pi4 is coming

        • @AliensStoleMyMoney:
I meant with my NAS, (HDD Caddy hooked up to Pi via USB and then using Samba to broadcast) local transfer rate, not internet transfer rate.
This means anything of a really high blu-ray quality does not stream enough bandwidth without needing to buffer.

        • +1

          @nicholsonr:

oh yeah but that isnt a issue for me as i just do 1080p streaming (got a 4k tv but lets be honest it aint happening for a long time)

  • PC Byte had these at $780 inc postage local in Nov16
