Best Site to Book Hotels in China

Hi guys,

As title suggests, I am looking to book about 2 weeks of accommodation in China in couple of different cities. I was looking at Trivago, Holescombined etc but there are too many different prices everywhere.

Is there a site you guys can recommend for best price? I remember reading on OZB about a site that is based in Asia somewhere which is apparently really good but can't find it anywhere on the forum.

Also are there any recommendations for a 5 star hotel in Beijing near the city centre/forbidden city?

Thanks

Edit: I ended up booking with Hotels.com. I just used Cashrewards and they also give you 1 night for every 10 nights you stay with them. I also booked another hotel for 4 days in another city in China which was more expensive on hotel.com, I called them and they matched the price with booking.com. Highly recommend these guys.

Don't go to Beijing, go to Shanghai.

    Use Airbnb rather than hotels.

    • Thanks mate, didn't know this existed. Very helpful.

  • hotels.com and wotif.com have "secret prices" if you signup. I didn't expect much but surprisingly both had some hotels which where cheaper than anywhere else. Both offer cashback at cashrewards.com.au. I also noticed that wotif had some hotels cheaper if you used the mobile site. Good luck.

I’m Chinese. I usually use 携程网,飞猪,美团,去哪儿,艺龙网。 All of them are Chinese sites.

Focus your attention on guest ratings and not so much hotel stars. I stayed in a 3 star hotel that i found to be an overall better place than a 4.5 star hotel I stayed in with slightly worse guest ratings. Use momondo to find the cheapest agent.

This is more so because Chinese hospitality can be very dismal even in big name hotels.

    • I ended up booking a 4 star as it had amazing views based on your advise. I wasn't even looking at that hotel originally and it's the perfect location too. Thanks for your comment.

  • Since you're looking at centrally located 5 star hotels I don't know if the pricing changes on Chinese websites, but for budget hotels you need to use Chinese websites to get a much wider selection. Always price check on websites like booking.com etc since they do get unique deals. Ctrip now owns qunar (and nearly everything else travel related) and has had English translations for a while, so they're your best bet. I don't know if all hotels on Ctrip are registered to accept foreigners or if this is even still an issue with booking on-line?

The Chinese airbnb is Tujia.com but I don't think they have English translations anyway. And guess who bought them. Ctrip of course!

Airbnb itself didn't get serious in China until very recently. It agreed to store its data in China and comply with local regulations.

  • I book everywhere with booking.com, usually free cancellation with no deposit right up until 48hrs before, so you can swap out your reservations with a better deal if you find one.

  • Thanks everyone for your help. I ended up booking with hotels.com. I realised I had a free night to claim through them which saved me even more. The price was cheaper or same compared to all other websites.
