28 Degrees Credit Card Master Card advice required.

Hello, I'm just checking if this is a no frills master card with no annual fees, just looking at the pros and cons with it. I have access to a visa card but recently when booking airfares, I required to use a master card credit for free payment and other means of payment was going to be like $40.40 extra and I notice this card has issues when you try using it with a Bpay or use it at a ATM oversea because you get charge a lot for fees, other say that they have issues using it over sea.

My main use is just to use it for website based in the US that require master card credit when I'm shopping in Australia, any feedback or experience would be appreciated.

Let me know if you experience any issues with this card, any feedback would be highly appreciated and if I don't use this card, would they issue me with a new card every 3 years without any issues and paying it before 55 days when using it so I don't get hit with their 21.99% fees.

Thank you

  • There are lengthy threads about this card in the forums, search for them. I'm satisfied with mine. My TL;DR summary: Good for overseas purchases but be careful how you pay off the balance, some methods incur extra fees. Some people are also unhappy with the customer service. Again, read the discussions and decide for yourself.

The two credit cards I know of that don't have fees for overseas or foreign currency purchases are the 28 degrees and the Bankwest Zero Platinum Mastercards. I have been using the 28degrees for a few years and it's been good. Recently had a dodgy unauthorised transaction and their customer service have given me the runaround. They are reimbursing me the money but it's been way more of a PITA than it should have. I also have the Bankwest card but haven't used it overseas, I may start doing so and get rid of the 28 degress due to the poor customer service. The Bankwest card also has free travel insurance when you book and pay for the return flights using the card. I was robbed by a taxi driver once and claimed on this, the experience was good and they paid the claim out with no issues. I also have the Citibank Plus Visa debit card/bank account which is great for overseas ATM withdrawals without the exorbitant fees other cards charge. They also have their own multi-currency ATM's in a lot of airports. I don't know of any alternative/competitor to this card.

In summary get either the 28degrees or Bankwest Zero Platinum Mastercard for overseas/online purchases in foreign currencies (their exchange rate is much better than Paypal too). And if you travel overseas get the Citibank Plus Visa debit card for fee free overseas ATM withdrawals (the ATM may charge a fee which is unavoidable regardless of which card you use). None of them have fees as long as you pay the credit cards off each month.

    • Thanks Sav11, yeah 28 Degrees is getting a very bad rap on Productreview.com.au so I wanted to find out from here what people thoughts are, I might look into Bankwest Zero Platinum, if its similar to 28 Degrees then that might be a card to pick.

I usually take cash when travelling oversea in term of the same currencies that used in the country I go to but might also look into Citibank Plus Visa as well.

  • I've also heard that Bankwest does not have currency conversions with their cards when using oversea, would that be right?

    • Sorry, what is your question?

      • Just trying to find out if Bankwest Zero Platinum Mastercard is a card to go with, if it similar to 28 Degrees with better customer service at the end, someone told me that if you use Bankwest Zero Platinum Mastercard oversea, they don't charge you any currency conversions on top.

No currency conversion fees for either card.

So either of those two for purchases and Citibank Plus for ATM cash.
