Breville BES920 Dual Boiler Coffee Machine - $799 on Clearance at The Good Guys

450

I missed out on the last $900 deal for these at Myer, and we don't have Bing Lee in Queensland so couldn't get the Dynamic Duo kit during the last ebay deal (no shipping).

I've been pricing around lately and we came across this deal at the Good Guys (in Townsville) today. We actually got it at $790 (see receipt attached).

    with Smart Grinder Pro?

    • No. That would be the BEP920 - Dynamic Duo, not the BES920 - Dual Boiler. Although they also have the Smart Grinder Pro for sale for $249 at the moment.

      • You are right. thx

Great price, remember to get a good grinder to go with it.

Clearance makes sense. Apparently there's a new model coming, though I've not heard what might be new about it.

In any event, $799 is great buying, thanks OP!

    • A new model would be interesting, seeing the Dual boiler has been around for quite a few years now, so I wonder what improvements can be made.

    • Yeap I've heard the same. For what's pretty much half the RRP though, it would have to be some amazing differences for me to justify buying at full price!

    • +1

Hmmm do you reckon the rest of the range will be cleared too? This one is tempting (my 10-year-old 800ES just died), but $800 is a bit of a stretch considering i'm in the midst of a root canal treatment.

      • +1

Hey, another 800ES user, high five!

For $800-new, nothing comes close to the Breville Dual Boiler. Nothing in Breville's range, nor Sunbeam or any other appliance manufacturer range. If you're not afraid to look outside of TGG/BingLee/HN/etc., you can pick up a Rancilio Silver or a Lelit PL41 brand new for the same kind of price, but accept their quirks (ie, not dual boiler).

Second hand the options are damn near endless. Hit up the hardware for sale secion of coffeesnobs.com.au for a look.

I've been saving in anticipation of the Nuova Simonelli Oscar II to release locally through legit, local distributors. Seems they have just landed this last week, so I'll be upgrading at Easter!

        • yeah, it had a good run. but I didn't want to fork out $115 for a new control PCB when there could have been something else busted as well.

          thanks, I'll take a look.

      • I don't think they're clearing the rest of the range at this stage. There's been rumours that the BES920 was being run out for a good few months now.

  • The price is not available on their website.

  • +1

MMM..I must not visit my local store..Lol.. were you upgrading from an older machine. Is it as splendid as the various reports say..

    • Upgraded from my dead EM6910, which was an upgrade from an EM5900. So yeah I've been through a couple. Although if you love your coffee and are keen to learn, at this price it's definitely worth jumping straight on to this one.

      • Can i ask what coffee bean you enjoy as Townsville local my self?

        • Black Mountain from coffee works on Gregory St for me. U even have the choice to custom specify how much u buy at a time to minimise beans going stale of ur only making a single coffee a day

        • @timnkoo: Yeap Coffee Works sell some good stuff (being that I was a Cairns local first 😁).

I've heard Coffee Dominion also sell beans.

        • OZbargain home baristas should all home roast.

It is 75% cheaper than buying

        • +1

@ASeawright: I must try coffee works. I am not fan of coffee Dominion I like lighter fav coffee. i have been using bounce coffee.

        • +1

@nikey2k27: They have a decent range with a few different blends. Definitely worth checking them out. If you ever get up to Mareeba their original store is actually quite nice too.

Ah..I've got the same sunbeam 6910.. still kicking along. But I'm aware that the end is nigh.

        boiler over thermoblock machine
brevile 860 to silvia. wow steam was awsome
great naked basket shots as well

manna beans here on ozb do a good bunch of stuff as well. before i started home roasting

  • Can anyone who has one of these comment on if it loses the presets when the power goes out? Our current Sunbeam does and it's really annoying.

    • hasn't happened to me

    • +3

I have one and can confirm it saves the presets when the power goes out. I can also confirm I'm drinking a delicious coffee as I write this ;)

    • presets are nice but you might niot be getting the mot out of your coffee that way, if it starts blonding by the end of shot

  • Just curious about this

I was going to buy this machine but ended up buying the Rancillio Silvia
When I was looking at reviews the feedback was similar for both but the Silvia had better build quality but only had a single boiler

Is the main reason to buy this over the Silvia purely based on the dual boiler function?

    • +2

Main reasons for me were definitely the dual boiler (we often have family visit and are making quite a few coffees at once) and the already included PID controller.

I also preferred the looks of this one over the Silvia, and considering this price is similar to the Silvia it was a no brainier for me.

  • $685 with cash rewards discount, delivered. Refurb though.

I was also looking at these, but they are a used refurb with only 3 months seller warranty, not a manufacturer refurb.

Better off paying the extra ~$100 for the new unit with 2 years warranty in my opinion.

      • Oh that's a huge consideration. Yep I would pay the extra.

I would have just expected the standard 1 year manufacturer warranty, 3 months is a joke.

      • +1

2 yr warranty makes this a great price. A lot of the $3k machines only have 1 yr warranty…

    • +1

Read a few forum threads on the 900/920. I would NOT go with a refurbished short warranty machine.
They seem to stack up well vs full steel "Italian" or other oem machines with a rrp $200-$500 more than this(@ $1500) but they do have terminal problems after a few years and if used constantly than the 2Y warranty may well be a life saver.

$900 warranted though near half what you might pay otherwise and 2y warranty. maybe???? get the shop warranty and use it in 3y time

    Thanks OP.
I went to DJ and ask for a price match.
Now the machine is with me. very happy with the price.

  • +1

Great timing OP! My dual boiler has just failed after 3 years of daily use. So a new in box replacement with 2 year warranty is perfect for me. Needed to ask specifically for bes920 (I.e. no grinder) as it's not on display. It's $799 staff price in their system and showing 1 left in a few stores around Vic. I could have kept searching/haggling for floor stock maybe, but pretty happy with this price.

  • I tried the Mt Gravatt Brisbane store, no stock. :( Sounds like price match elsewhere could be a go?

    • +1

Thank you OP, successfully price matched at DJ's in Brisbane.

They had to do a ring around so took 30 mins or so. DJ's policy is that if stock is available within 30ks of any DJ's store in Australia they had to match. Tgg had no stock at all in Qld but some in Alexandria in NSW so it was no problems @ $799. Happy with that.

      • Awesome, glad you were able to pick one up!

  • Just hit up the local breville seconds outlet for massive bargains. Got a milk frother there the other day for $80, damaged box, well it wasn't really damaged at all.

  • Is the BES920 the same as the BEP920, just without the smart grinder?

  • What's the cheapest this has been and also the one with the grinder?

    • +1

With grinder it seems to come down around the $1000 to $1050 mark.

Without was about this price though some got the extra benefits from the Harvey Norman American Express deals last year as well.

Grinder separately has been down around $160 to $190.

  • +1

Thanks for this post OP! Picked up one today at Good Guys in WA with the smart grinder pro for $1009. Been looking a couple weeks for this but worried I missed out on the post Christmas sales. Last one in the belmont store but I'm sure others would have stock.

Dropped my BES920 in for warranty repair today. Be cautious when descaling this machine as there are known issues when descaling per the steps in the manual, with the heating element burning out due to the boiler being empty (a known software issue).

Also be warned that there are a fair number of these going into repair centres due to the high volume sold. When I was dropping mine off, there was another one coming in with another known issue (water leaking around group head).

Per the service agents, current wait for parts can be up to 4 weeks.
