Xbox/Windows Store codes are region free, and you can access the first game straight away if you get the Ultimate Edition
I think you need the ultimate edition to play the early release.
Want to get this as an alternative to starcraft which my son and I have played to death, but I think with Halo wars we will need 2 Xbox gold accounts and 2 copies of halo wars wheras with starcraft, if you had one copy you could host a guest on the local network as another player.
Are you talking about starcraft 1 or 2? imo Halo Wars plays nothing like them, its a very streamlined rts. Maybe too streamlined, for better or for worse.
Look up family sharing. If you have two Xbox Ones, then you can share one digital game across one Gold account. That's what we do.
Do you have 2 xboxs? you only need 1 copy of the game and live then. If your on PC then you don't need xbox live gold
halo wars the first one was one of my all time top 5 games. halo wars 2 looks awesome

Did not get ultimate edition. because i already Have 1 on 360. I wouldn't use DLC or play season pass. Im so over season passes when Gears of war 4 made their season pass useless.
Dammit, bought this on the Microsoft Store. $119. MightyApe had it slightly cheaper but I hadnt used them before. Microsoft store makes getting a refund really hard, such a shame. I was looking forward to this game but now I just feel ripped off.. Microsoft store had 25% off gift vouchers over christmas that makes this purchase less painful.
Also, it takes 7-10 days for Microsoft to send you cdkey for definitive edition of Halo Wars 1. It'll show up as purchased in the store but you wont be able to play it until they send you a cdkey for the early access version of the game.
You sure they make it hard? You get 1 unanswered refund a year. you don't need a reason. But i used i needed money for bills. Just incases?
Back before Halo 5 was released, i had statue edition pre ordered. So instead of waiting the next day. i pre ordered it days before. Installed the game,got to play it midnight on the dot!!!! in the morning of its release. I picked my copy up at EB. which came with Physical copy and digital! So i went onto Xbox.com and used the online CHAT WITH XBOX SUPPORT i think it was. within 10mins i got my refund. then used my digital code from EB games purchase!
You can get it refunded over their online chat support. I just did and they only asked for a cancellation reason.

FYI I'm having trouble getting my code for Halo Wars definitive edition
Ordered ultimate edition and got email with download link. But, link says I have to wait till Feb 17. Fair enough for Halo Wars 2, but I want to get access to the definitive edition while I wait.
Emailed asking for access for definitive edition and got an unhelpful stock standard answer. Something like "This is a pre-order, it will be delivered on release date, Feb 17"
Have emailed back explaining the preorder should give me access to definitive edition already. Waiting on reply. Hoping it is resolved before Feb 17.
Their reply:

Ultimate Edition is $84 too, it includes the Season Pass and original game.
