UBER - Method of Payment While Traveling Overseas

Hi guys,

I am planning on traveling overseas (USA) soon and would like to know what type of payment/credit card they have when using their Uber account.

The reason for my question is that I am planning on using Uber and would like to know what everyone is using to avoid or to minimise the cost of currency conversion fees each time they use Uber.

Would Citibank plus be an 'ideal' debit card to add onto your Uber account? Or can somebody suggest or recommend on something?

Any comments, feedback or any suggestions is appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

  • Refer to Travel Cards in the Credit Card Guide.

You have the following options: 28 Degrees, Coles Rewards, Bankwest (credit cards) and Citibank Plus (debit card).

I don't think there are any other debit cards that offer free international transaction fees or free currency conversion fees.

    • I think Macquarie bank Platinum debit card is one of the newest contenders with no foreign transaction fees, however, CitiBank plus is still better as there are no international ATM fees.

    • ANZ Travel Adventures is another one that waives international fees/forex fees which I haven't added to the guide yet (but will do so now!)

  • Thank you - Does the Macquarie Bank Platinum & the ANZ Travel Adventures have any annual fees? I'm hoping to get something similar to the old 28 degrees card. However, after reading through the 28 degrees reviews there are lots of people are against the 0.95 fees that they are charging to pay for your purchases on the card.

Please keep the feedback and comments coming as I would like to hear and see what's available.

    • Macquarie Bank Platinum absolutely not - it's a debit card and I wouldn't advise a debit card that costs money.

ANZ Travel Adventures yes, $225 annual fee, but the key benefit is that you actually get a domestic flight (included in the annual fee) every card year.

The $0.95 fee is a BPAY fee - not a fee for making purchases. It would be ridiculous if it was a $0.95 for every purchase.

      • How do the exchange compare for the Macquarie Platinum and the Anz Travel Adventures?

        • Don't know to be honest but I would imagine it uses the conversion rate of either Mastercard or Visa

There's nothing wrong with the 0.95 fee. It's a B-Pay fee when you pay your credit card. God people are so freaking tight

I find the idea of having to pay an extra fee to pay for my bill more than mildly annoying. I've always felt it was a cost of doing business.

With that attitude you are on the wrong website
