Looking for a new monitor - advice please

Hey everyone,

Looking for device as I seem to be going around in circles at the moment. I am currently looking for a replacement primary monitor for an existing Asus VE276Q.

I will spend 40+ hours in front of the monitor at about 60% work (mostly office related tasks) and 40% gaming.

Currently I have a 780Ti, looking to replace with a 1080/1070 at the same time.

Essential:
Reliable
QHD, UWQHD or better
27" or greater
Good response times

Desirable:
IPS (or IPS-esque)
G-Sync
Curved
32"

Currently my interest is in the Acer X34, however I have never purchase an ACER (currently use a mixture of Asus and Samsung). Ideally I am attempting to keep the budget close to $1000, but the X34 (like a lot of things) seems to be going north of Christmas pricing rather than south.

Thoughts, ideas and feedback are welcomed. So is advice regarding initiation into the ultra-wide masterace if there is a UWQHD+ adept around.

Thanks in advance for anyone who responds!

  • I think the only real competitor to the X34 is the ASUS PG348Q? Correct me if I'm wrong. LG have a monitor but Freesync: http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/LG-34UC88-B-34-Curved-Ultra-Wide-… for just under $1000.

This is going for $895 but idk how good it is: http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Philips-BDM3490UC-34-3440x1440-WQ…

    • Nice! Looks great aesthetically speaking

    • Yeah that's the only monitor with the same panel and G-sync AFAIK.

I think the ambient lighting is way better on the X34 (9 LED under the monitor vs an ugly ROG symbol), the stand is better looking and for some reason (branding presumably) it seems to always cost $200 more.

      • Yes, but will it match my Steelseries and Silverstone minimalist fetish?

  • I own an Acer x34 Predator and I'm really happy with it.

The only thing I think is bad is the controls which should have been a joystick button on the rear but other than that it's a great monitor for gaming and productivity.

I highly recommend buying from a vendor that allows returns for screen quality. I had some backlight bleed which improved about a week or two after first using it.

    • Thanks for the advice. I definitely happy to pay a little more for a more reliable vendor (not very ozbargainy of me I know!)
