Which Laptop Should I Consider? (Budget $1500-$1700)

I have been having Sony VAIO one after one for the last 10 years. Well, 3 in total. I have never had one single problem with them. No repairs. Fast. Reliable. As Sony no matter makes laptop and it's time for me to change to a new laptop to keep up with the technology, I am wondering which brand to go for. Any suggestions?

My price range is around $1500 - $1700.
Other preferences: Light in weight, 2+ USB, 8GB+ ram, 258GB hard drive (well, no preference on HDD or SDD).
Lastly: Reliable.

Any thoughts?

Lenovo T460S. Ticks all those boxes and has a strong build that will last for 5+ years. Just waiting for the 1k deal to repeat itself.

    • seconded, T series are built like tanks and last like a T-84 battle tank.

I have no idea why I keep referencing tanks.

Anyway, T460s can be configured here and use the coupon code DEALS to bring it down to $1349,00

  • Refurb Dell Latitude from the Outlet.
What size screen do you want?
    Example - $900 Latitude 7470 (7000 series)
    i5 7200u
    8GB ram
128GB SSD (easy to upgrade to 256)
    14" FHD screen
    Approx 1.2kg
    Reliable as hell

Or Dell XPS13 with the current sale is around $1400, pretty much same specs but a bit thinner and lighter

edit: This XPS from last week's sale ticks all your boxes (google coil whine though as it may still be an issue) https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/291253

well, no preference on HDD or SDD

Er … have you even used a laptop with an SSD? I ask the question because SSD makes such a difference to performance almost all the time. You should not be using a HDD with a $1500 laptop unless it's a secondary drive (generally speaking: it might be worth the massive performance loss if you required much more storage than the average user).
