As part of Healthy Weight Week a Port Macquarie physiotherapy centre is hosting a charity day on February 15.
All funds raised on the day will go towards The Student Heart Project which was set up by Charles Sturt University paramedic students.
The aim of the project is to help equip Port Macquarie with defibrillators.
The Student Heart Project is a non-government fundraising initiative to emphasise the importance of early defibrillation in the event of cardiac arrest.
Student Heart Project committee member Brandon Robinson said defibrillators are expensive and cost about $2400 per unit.
However he said the vital piece of equipment can be paramount in helping to save someone’s life.
Mr Robinson said Port Macquarie is known for having an elderly population and issues with cardiovascular disease can be prominent in this demographic group.
He said the project is working on securing defibrillators for locations in Wauchope.
Healthy Weight Week is from February 13 until February 19.
Phyx You physiotherapist Sarah Curry said while people tend to know that having a healthy weight is important, not many are active in implementing change to achieve it.
For a $5 donation people will be able to get a total body assessment using the Phyx You Fit3D Body Scanner on February 15.
The scanner captures a 360 degree image of a person and is able to extract a number of measurements in 40 seconds.
It provides a report on body measurements, body composition and posture.
Phyx You physiotherapist Grayce Gerke said the day offers an opportunity for people to take charge of their weight and fitness goals, while also contributing to a great cause.
All results from the scanner are confidential and can be accessed online using a username and password
