What to do with my broken MacBook Air?

So my 2013 MacBook Air decided to crap out on me.
Suddenly shuts off and won't turn on again, brought it to Apple Store and was told will cost nearly 800 bucks to replace the logic board. Tried to get them to waive the fee but was a no go.

I asked them to remove the SSD for me so I can extract the data/files.

Now my question is what should I do with the MacBook? Should I try to sell it as a broken laptop without the SSD? Would anyone want to buy it? Will any of my details (passwords, credit cards, etc) still be kept on the laptop even the SSD is removed? Or is it pretty much a piece of junk now…..

Thanks guys

    1. SSD removed personal info is no longer stored on it
    2. How old is the device, you can go down consumer law roads, slow process but a device that retailed for 1100+ should last 4 years
    3. Provided you didn't cause the logic board fault then I see no issue with this, if they don't budge logic boards can be repaired from a few shops, they usually do a reflow / quote to see if you can get it repaired etc
    4. Someone may buy it for parts but I would definately excecise your rights as a consumer

Ensure you have proof of purchase / reciept / Bank statements, but logic board faults render the device next to useless and if you can get it fixed that would be a better solution

    • I bought the laptop in 2012, I have tried negotiating with Apple Store using the protect law, however the genius told me that my "one off" exception fee waiving was used up (laptop was fixed in 2015 for power connection problem) and they cannot give me another exception.

  • ebay. people are looking for an intact screen or case or replacement keyboard, etc.

  • yeah sell it on ebay. you end up getting more than you would think! non working apple stuff gets good prices as i think people try to fix it themselves

  • it works great as a mousepad
