ISP Suggestion for ADSL2

Hey Everyone,

I am currently with Optus for ADSL2, but have been finding it can get very slow at times

I have read that Optus does have congestion issues and was wondering if I switch to another provider will it improve the speeds

If so, who does everyone recommend

Maybe it the modem? Rather than the provider

I had a similar problem last year with my TPG internet provider with lowdown and constant disconnection

Invested in an Asus DSL ACU86U - WIFI MODEM

    Work wonders!

    • Is that the right model number?

        oops - Asus ADSL-AC68U AC1900 Dual-Band Wi-Fi Modem Router

Make sure it has Wifi and Modem together

  • It seems like every ADSL provider is like this atm. Just unuseable in the evening peak. Doesn't seem to be happening with cable/NBN. No ISP will say there's an issue of course and you should go and get a new router!

    Appalling roonet.

    • It would also depend on your exchange. There was one I was in that had high numbers of people in units. Congestion overload.

If you move to an area with std, 1/4 acre blocks, less congestion.

      Same ISP.

  • I'd recommend looking on whirlpool.com.au instead of OzB, Whirpool is much more specific to internet/ADSL/IT and related areas.

It could be congestion, the modem's NAT table too full, line faults, overprovisioning, other users, site issues. And depending on your location, exchange issues that you cannot fix regardless of what you change.

So talk to the guys over there - the more specific you are, the more specific they can assist.

    • Thanks

      Ill see what they say

      • Stick with Optus.

Stay away from Whirlpool. The problems are usually isolated to one person's specific circumstances. Rarely do we see evidence of a group of people in the same suburb with problems…

If you require more speeds, use an Australian based VPN to get better routing.

Everyone believes there is congestion, and it might exist in some places but usually it turns into a whine because of low sample sizes. You should just do the troubleshooting yourself and figure it out. Know what your historical line sync speeds were.

        Remember, correlation is not causation.
