Buying a New Pajero With Minor Cosmetic Storm Damage

Hi everyone,

I am looking a new Pajero Sport Exceed and found this car with $6000 discount (but actual discount might be $2000) due to minor cosmetic storm damage. I am not sure whether I have any issues if I buy a car like this. I do not have experience and not quite understand about cosmetic storm damage. I read through the internet some car will be written off but i am not sure it happens to a new car from dealer?

Thank you for your advice.

Regards,

Zack

  • Most likely it has some hail damage (dents) on roof, bonnet etc.

IMHO it is much better to save money by buying "Undamaged" & "Demo or 2nd hand", rather than "Damaged" & "Brand New".

Not commenting on the car choice obviously as this is very personal.

    • I thought the one I refer is similar to Demo one hic

  • Just out of curiosity, whats the difference between this one and these ones that are 10k less (besides the fact that they are ex-demos)

In my opinion, this price as a demo model is a better deal than $51k with storm damage.

But maybe that's because depreciation is literally the biggest cost I could ever fathom and I would never even contemplate owning a brand new car.

    • You've linked to GLX, OP is chasing Exceed

      • Right.. And what's the difference between those two models..?

        • +3

OP wants an Exceed… what does it matter? Model choice isn't the question being asked here.

  • You could probably negotiate a much much better discount on storm damaged vehicle. The dealer would definitely want it off their books…..

  • check insurance first with previous hail damage

    • How can we check insurance?

  • +2

Less than $1000 more with no damage

Just avoid the storm damaged one, it's too expensive for a damaged car

    • Couldn't agree more, I'd be expecting a lot more than $6k off for a storm damaged vehicle of that value.

  • Agreed, a work colleague bought a hail damaged Hyundai i20 for $6000 off the driveaway price, and you couldn't see the damage unless you were peering intently at the paintwork from a metre away. For something like that you should be asking for a LOT more off or they'll be laughing all the way to the bank
