Allphones Goes into Administration

So what does this mean for us, what does this mean for small to medium companies?

It seems as of late, we have had a different business going under every couple of months..in the last 3 months alone, we have had Pumpkin Patch, Payless Shoes and now Allphones.

Yes it means good deals for us and cheap presents….for those who can get shit thats not just no-brand rubbish…but what does this mean for us? what does this mean for our future? Surely things cant get dearer, but with less competition, why should a business feel the need to have regular sales? we've already seen with DSE going down, JB have reduced their electronics & computer sales.

Idk, short term, its 'yeah cheap shit' but long term it's looking pretty grim.

  • Businesses with a business model relying on a widespread and premium retail presence cannot compete against low margin competitors

    • which in turn means that retail real estate will become cheaper to invest in or at least their shares

It is a real dance that is happening at the moment. People want the security, and reliability, of a bricks and mortar store but don't want to pay the overheads. My personal opinion is I'm happy to pay a bit extra for buying at bricks and mortar stores for anything above the price that I'm willing to lose; i.e. anything above roughly $50-$100. I've heard too many horror stories about people not responding to messages when something goes wrong; at least with a B&M store you can camp out in the store and complain until someone attends to you. I loath Pauline Hanson and Trump, but I do agree that Western countries are too keen to export jobs in the name of saving a couple of dollars - apart from manufacturing, which you can engineer the bejesus out of to make sure every widget looks basically the same and is produced in the same manner, the overseas transition is rarely better for the end customer; e.g. call centres, IT delivery, etc. Any company that tells you that they are "customer first" whilst doing that is lying to you. Rant over, resume normal apathy.

    • yep i 100% agree with you. The net is good, but i can get better customer service and assurance at a physical shop…not to mention i leave with the product in hand.

what happen with warranty from allphone?

    this is the link
    http://www.smh.com.au/business/18-stores-closed-and-70-staff…

Allphones employed 440 people before administration. It has 84 stores of which 25 are company owned, seven are franchises and the remaining 52 are licensed.

what is the difference between franchises and licensed>?

    • Licensed is that the store only uses Allphone brand name and everything else is planned and dictated by the store owner. Store will be independent strategically and financially.

Franchised is dependent on the support from headquarter.

Nobody has the money to spend on services and goods as every dollar apart from food and bills is going in to the humongous mortgage.Real estate booms are not good for the larger economy.Nobody benefits except builders, construction workers and real estate agents and of course those investors who bought when it was cheap.

      "humongous mortgage."

actually interest rate mortgage is very low. but people having way too many children (especially poorer people they tend to have more than the richer i dont know whats the logic here really) so they think ok interest is low lets get bigger houses. and then.. bigger car.. once they lost their job then game over - centrelink here we come

Most retarded comment I have ever seen (Joe Hockey is that you?!).

Property prices in major cities 10 folded in the last 15 years. Did the medium salaries follow? Nope…….must due to the excessive birthrate :o.

Mind you Joe, most of the hot $$$ from rich migrants wasn't taxed and had minimum contribution to our community in contrast to income that is made locally. The government is trading the life of our young generation away for CASH ON HAND.

things cant get dearer, but with less competition,

You're believing the neo-liberal ideological garbage. Things don't work like that in real life.

    • mate ive been living enough to know that less competition means companies can raise prices and during 'sales' they just reduce it back to where it was 12months ago.
