Have You Purchased from G2A.com - Better Check Your Bank Account!

It has recently come to my attention that the sneaky bastards over at the G2A.com have an automatically checked box in their check out that adds a monthly subscription to their "G2A Shield" which deducts $2 (AUD) every month unless you uncheck it before you purchase a game.

The service is 100% redundant and is only a ploy to take money from people that happen to miss the checked box. The G2A shield account is then hidden in the back of your account and is almost next to impossible to find. in fact I only found out what it was by talking to a rep in the "contact Us" section of the site.

I highly recommend you check you account if you have purchased a game from them and double check you haven't been paying them for their useless service.

I wonder how many of us are out there right now?

How can I sign up to the shield service?

You should stop buying from G2A all together. I've bought from them before and had my S/N key revoked by the publisher without steam notifying me.
I'm just one of many people who've been sold stolen keys.

Also, they like to do dodgy re-sells:

I've seen popular youtube streamers advertise G2A as their sponsors but they in all likelihood don't even use them.

I had this same problem and PayPal couldn't recover the costs due to the contract when you first sign up to g2a shield but they cancelled it manually for me without having to go through g2a.

Usually it is easy to get your money back for game issues though. From my experience G2A never respond to disputes/claims which in PayPal's eyes is admition of guilt and a 100% refund. Have done this many times.

g2a started off as legit, but is now a marketplace for stolen keys, as long as they get a cut, they dont care what you get, stolen or non stolen keys.

  • Yeah, deactivating that shield is a long-winded process. You need to head into Account Management, find the 'G2A Shield' deactivation section. (hope that it lets you - if you're on the trial, it won't let you deactivate until the last two days before they bill you, in hopes you'll forget!) Once you start the process there's about seven or eight survey questions followed by a wait for an email with a link that you use to confirm deactivation. (The email takes a bit to receive and the link isn't active for long, took me two attempts.)

Yeah, G2A is pretty dodgy sometimes, but the prices you pay and savings you make reflect that risk. Personally, I still use it for regional Xbox credit, as they're instantly redeemable pre-paid codes that aren't gonna be taken away after you activate them.

It's a shame though. I've used them for selling (as it's a simple process for off-loading games you have from older bundles) but having to wait seven to fourteen days AFTER the sale was finalised and money was exchanged and is sitting in your pending account balance on G2A for every sale turned me off bothering.

  • I was scammed like this too. Super dodgy company. Not worth the saving - don't buy from them.
