Bug-a-Salt 2.0 Bug Killler $54.90+ Delivery ($8 to QLD) at NestofDesign

230

The bugasalt was a popular indiegogo funded pest killer. This is an expensive novelty and most people would prefer the cheaper ebay knock off, but I thought someone might make use of this.
There's a short video of how it works on the bugasalt website- https://bugasalt.com/

It shoots a pinch of salt (80 before reloading) that knocks out and kills flies. The first model from bugasalt had some issues and didn't always kill flies first go, this was fixed with the 2.0.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=W_rMNm8dRKA

According to reviews it will mostly kill flies, mozzies and moths no problem from about 30cm away, but it says range can be up to 90cm. Reviews say this won't work on beetles and rarely on wasps but some people have had some luck.

Now unbranded ones of these are about $40 on ebay but I want to be sure I get the more pwoerful version. They might come from the same warehouse but they could be copies of the earlier model.
http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/AU-Powerful-Salt-Gun-For-Flies-Be…

The american sites don't ship to Australia much because some may conisder it a firearm, so ebay was nearly the only bet. Cheapest being $120
http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Authentic-BUG-A-SALT-2-0-Gun-Fly-…

So if you're chasing a legit bug-a-salt this is the cheapest I could find in AUS.
I think this is a good price because from the bug-a-salt website they're $58 AUD ($45 US) + post around the US, so $63 AUD goes alright.

It came after about 14 days from hong kong
Definitely looks legit but I forwarded pics to bugasalt to be sure
Heres some pics

I just use chop stix from Sushi Train.

How is it killing the flies? Is it the salt itself or just the impact? Does it squish the flies and leave a mess?

    • +1

It stuns them which appears to kill them. No mess. A quick video here- https://bugasalt.com/

      • +10

Plus they are lightly salted and ready for the frying pan!

        • +3

          Seasoned to perfection

        • +7

@nightelves: If you shot em in the behind, that would be arse-salt! That would then make this an arse-salt rifle!!!

I've heard they're pretty awesome, never had the pleasure
      Brutal when they explode- https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oUJLgKkmllA

      • +1

oh wow, did not realise they exploded haha

      • slow-mo videos are always odly satisfying

    • I have 2 of these. They are pretty terrifying to use. They're super loud when they come into contact with bugs or anything, really. I have to wince in preparation before hitting anything.

  • +5

so instead of flies, you just have salt shot around the house :)

    • Could get messy.

      • yeah ….. and the rust from the salt once it absorbs a bit of moisture,

  • Thanks glow thought these were banned and you can't get them in country , at least from the airport anyway .

    • Plenty of knock offs from hong kong and a few legit bugasalts getting through

      • This is apost from them in 2014

I bought one of these a couple of years ago (got through customs seemingly).

It didn't kill Aussie flies. I just have mildly concussed, well-seasoned flies roaming around.

    • +2

Hoping the 2.0 is better, but i'd reckon it'd give mozzies a fair go
Plus you go just double tap em while concussed?

      • I got the 2.0 about 1 1/2 years ago also.. kept it in its box used it just to test it briefly. fun toy if these are legal to import now i might go about using it and buying a spare.

        • +3

Did you specifically not use it because it couldn't be imported?

        • +1

@lilviss: Legit question. I want to know too.

        • @lilviss: yes, mine 100% genuine was from a authorize dealer of bug a salt.. he had a limited supply left i might of even used a eBay sitewide coupon back when i got it. :)

Back around 2 years ago eBay was flooded with heaps of these fakes, even in other designs that were never released by bug-a-salt directly from HK or locally.

I had even seen them on Aliexpress when i was looking.. which if you look hard enough you can still find them in china

For some reason i don't think this website is selling genuine items heaps of stuff they sell looks directly off Aliexpress.. I could be wrong.. but only way to check is buying one and confirming with bug-a-salt directly.

If it was me selling from the above website i would clearly mention its a genuine bug-a-salt 2.0.

  • +4

Tempted to get one but too messy to clean up the salt afterward. I use a rubber band with my 2 hands. I could shoot a fly 2 meters away with 80% accuracy, as I have plenty of practice when I was young.

    • Nice. I use a towel, and crack it like a whip - gets 'em every time

      • I catch flies and mozzies in one hand.

        • You the real karate kid :o

        • Yes, with flies when they are stationary and with mosquitoes at mid flight.

  • +3

Eggcellent … goes with the pepper spray that I just bought 🙃

  • Wouldnt it be cheaper and more effective getting those zap racquet for around $10

    • It would…but not nearly as much fun

  • I'll buy one but my current weapon is simply an empty Pepsi bottle (1.25L) one.
    Use it like a club.

    • boinggg

    • Works like a charm actually. Roll up newspaper is just as good. Thank you.

  • +1

This is for hardcore Supernatural fans

    • +2

Actually what my brother thought it was for when I linked him. The idiot

  • This would work great for bunga bunga parties and smashing down tequila shots while getting shot with salt

  • Mistake for a gun ….Yeah like nerf ….Marketing hype. I can't imagine customs confiscating one of these even if delivery address is to cammancheros club house.

    • They did have issues
      From the indiegogo campaign
"We started shipping domestic USA BUG-A-SALT orders as of October 10th. International orders are delayed pending a review of import and packaging requirements that must be met to ship them to the 70 countries we received orders from. See Post Campaign Update #7 for details about your options as an international customer. Thx!"

Sucks but you'd think there would be more in australia if there were 0 issues

  • Shot myself in the palm with one of these maybe 15cm distance to test the strength, was red for a while haha

    • found it for very slightly cheaper on ebay - http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Bug-A-Salt-2-0-Camofly-Salt-Gun-K…

2-4 week delivery save $4.35 (shipping to NSW[$8.45])

      • +1

I did find that one, but bear in mind
That is coming from hong kong - so there may be customs issues
It is possible it isn't legit
That ebay seller only has 8 feedback and has been an ebay member for a few months

        Not a trusted seller

I did try to find that to link it in my description but it wasn't there anymore while I was writing it up

        • yea you're right! didnt notice that :(

Was looking through nestofdesign to see what else is good to take advantage of free shipping >$75 but no luck haha

will probably buy from nestofdesign anyway then

  • I want one but wife won't allow. I might ask for a personal loan.

When asking about the difference between the bugasalt 1 and 2.0 bugasalt support said this
"FYI, we no longer have any distributors in Australia,
so if there is anyone selling Bug-A-Salt products, most
    likely they are counterfeit'

I guess have to hope it's old stock or the Aussie shops have a us forwarding service

When it arrives I'll suss out if it's authentic

    • saw a video on the differences, the v2 uses less salt and is a lot stronger, tore through a sheet paper of tin foil whilst the v1 only dented it :)

      • Yeah i meant this appearance difference to be certain I was sold and 2.0 and not a 1 :)
Which were, the safety facing a different dirrection and the bug-a-salt logo is on a an indentation in the 1 and not the 2.0
"The most visible the differences between the 1.0 and the 2.0 are
the safety faces towards the front of the gun and there's
an indentation where you see the Bug-A-Salt logo on the 1.0.
        Please see attached picture."

    • When it arrives I'll suss out if it's authentic

Is it easy to tell if it's authentic or not?

      • The official website has this page but it hasn't been updated for years pretty sure they have caught up and cloned the new design now.. might have to email and ask them directly with pics?

Also, down the bottom of that page it list this message.

If you didn't purchase your BUG-A-SALT directly from our site, there is a chance you received a counterfeit or discontinued product from a dishonest seller. Please examine the above photos to determine which BUG-A-SALT you have. The BUG-A-SALT 2.0 is currently the only legitimate salt gun on the market!

EDIT - has the owner of this website removed the link/item now.. item cannot be found!??

        • I was emailing them, there's a good chance it's no longer instead because they said they received heaps of orders.
I asked them and they confirmed it was authentic but I guess we'll see

        • @lilviss: Aww. Maybe I should have bought it first.

        • They made it seem as though it's a long term product, hopefully it'll be back

        • +1

Although they've already told me it was authentic, i've emailed and asked why the page was taken down :)

        • @lilviss: did you receive the one you purchased yet?

        • +1

          @strat: No I haven't
I emailed about it and they've told me that it would either come from the Hong Kong warehouse or the Sydney warehouse

When I pushed further when the tracking didn't update for 5 days they said it was coming from their hong kong warehouse. I responded by saying 'it was my understanding that bugasalt only distributed from the US, because I doubt you share a manufacturing warehouse with them, how does that work?'which was ignored. This draws into question its authenticity.

The auspost tracking shows as 'started' from today

        • @lilviss: I wouldn't be happy with that reply if i seen it saying it's come from HK.. even when you asked them if its authentic and they said yes.

        • @strat: I'm not particularly happy but theres not much I can do but wait

        • @strat: It coming from HK doesn't mean it's fake though. If a store here sold a OnePlus 3 unofficially, they would not be an authorised seller, but the phone would still be genuine.

Moot point though, since it's not available any more. I ended up just getting those electric racquets, they were going for $5 on Kogan with free shipping.

        • @eug: fair enough
delivery is due tomorrow according to auspost

        • @lilviss:

i am still waiting for mine too auspost hasnt updated at all…

        • @Ninjabredman: hey mate
It arrived today and looks totally legit. The 'letter from Lorenzo' was with it and all the safety stickers and stuff. Came with the warning sticker on the refill slot and some little bug stickers

I am sure it's legit but I emailed the pics to bugasalt anyway

          https://imgur.com/gallery/rF5CY

        • @eug: a factory cloning a plastic gun and a 500$ phone is totally different. Any factory in china would be able to clone a plastic toy gun if they wanted for peanuts.

        • @strat: So are you saying it is 100% impossible for a plastic toy gun shipped from HK to be genuine?

        • @Ninjabredman:
          Hey mate
Escalated to a claim cos they didn't answer for 2 weeks
Won they claim because they didn't answer

  • It arrived everyone
    https://imgur.com/gallery/rF5CY

  • mine is only processing now because i facebook messaged yesterday………..

    gotta wait another week sigh

    • How longs it been? So tracking wasn't showing anything until now?
Mine took dot on 10 days, which I guess is alright from hk

      • it's been a week since order and now it's finally started processing after i messaged them but they didnt offically respond back to me

        hoping it arrives next week

        • Bad news, sort of.

          "Ryan,

It seems to be a very good bootleg.
They way we can tell is they use a different tie than we do.

Apparently the ties are different, I'm going to send them close ups of the gun to tell as well, this was just the packaging

        • @lilviss:

          request for refund?

        • @Ninjabredman: it honestly shoots like a champion.
I don't have too much of an issue with it.
The cocking is quite rough but it looked that way in YouTube videos aswell

I'm going to take some close up pics and send them to bugasalt tomorrow

        • @lilviss: first pics were packaging only

        • @lilviss:

thanks for the update, the tracking is still in processing for me at the moment but if it works as intended when it arrives that's fine

          thank you

        • @Ninjabredman: sent that pics through just then
          Been busy as
They normally answer within a day

        • @lilviss:

Have messaged them twice about it on the facebook messages now, no answer yet still unfortunately, will directly enquire
          annoying

        • @Ninjabredman: to bugasalt or nest of design
          I meant bugalsalt

        • @lilviss:

just checked the tracking again it's arrived at home apparently now

will check it out tonight heh

        • @Ninjabredman:

OK so finally got the gun

Loaded it with normal table salt you get from woolies, cocked the gun, tried to flick the safety mechanism (didnt click, odd) gun does not fire because safety cannot go on

requesting refund now through paypal SIGH… what a waste of time

        • @Ninjabredman: I've also started a claim (no answer from bugasalt yet)
Nearly everytime I load it, no salt goes into the loading mechanism to shoot out. I was wondering why flies I shot just got startled and flew away.

I honestly want one so I might consider a postage forwarding service from the US. We'll see though

"1) This item is defective, the loading mechanism does not work. No salt goes into the loading chamber 9/10 times when loading the gun.

          2) I have also spoken with the bugasalt support team and sent through various images who have confirmed that this is a bootleg bugasalt.

          "Ryan,

It seems to be a very good bootleg.

They way we can tell is they use a different tie than we do.

          Best,

I have opened this paypal dispute because on 10/02/2017 at 12.42pm with no response.

I have requested $54.90 refund as shipping was initially refunded ($8.45)

I can provide images of nest of design saying this was an authentic bugasalt, aswell as their original listing claiming so, and the bugasalt support team confirming this was false.

          Thanks

          Kind regards"

        • @lilviss:

I used bluetack to keep the safety mechanism in one position so i can use the gun now but i'm half deciding whether to send it back or not, i saw videos of the v2.0 shooting and penetrating tin foil

I shot some salt against table napkin and it didnt even penetrate….

They emailed me with a return postal address for refund:

Po box 1051 north Sydney NSW 2059

        • @Ninjabredman: I'm expecting them to pay return postage seeing as it's defective. We'll see what they say, i went straight to paypal

        • @lilviss:

I have to pay for it they just gave me the address to send… zz

        • @Ninjabredman: If you paid with Paypal, use their Refunded Returns?

        • @eug:

          fantastic thank you so much

        • @eug:legend

        • @Ninjabredman: hey mate. Bit of an update. I opened a PayPal dispute on the 22nd with no response so I escalated to claim today.
Not expecting any trouble getting a full refund cos of that

        • @lilviss:

          Email from Paypal HAHAH yay!!
