I just found something that all good Ozbargainers could appreciate, a deal on Eneloops. I'm not sure if this is better than the deals seen when Dick Smith was still around, but have a look anyway. It says that there's only limited time remaining on the deal, but doesn't specify when the deal will be ending.

Edit: Postage is $9.95, if you were wondering.

  • Plus postage. It would good to know roughly how much that is before having to make an account and log in.

    • I just checked, and postage is $9.95.

      • Postage depends on location, it may be more.

Any deal for AAA only? I need at least 16 of them.

    • Unfortunately they only have AA batteries.

      • The family pack has AAA

check Costco if member, under $20 for a pack of 8pcs

Go for the Ikea ladda 900 if you have one near you. There is some fairly substantive evidence that they are rebadged Eneloop pros.

Or the Aldi ones, if you can find them. I've noticed that some stores seem to be out of stock at the moment, while others have heaps. Depending on the use scenario, these may also be good value. I bought 40 last weekend for my emergency/blackout supplies box to use with led bulbs

      • Agree.
I needed 12 AAA's (LED lights that I thought used AA's lol) and bit the bullet on the Aldi ones as the store is much closer than IKEA.
I'd actually go regular over pro eneloops in my usage. Not large power drawer and not frequent use so I'd rather the extra cycles.

A$39 delivered for 16 AAA and they are made in Japan.

  • Only a basic charger? No good right?

Bought 2 family packs for $63 posted with code BUY2DAY ($10 off)

    • Has to be a new member from the looks of it

      • The real question is how many times can someone be a new member, especially if you use the gmail full stop trick our own your own domain?

1 x family pack normal price on ebay $44 w/postage

  • As good as we are going to get? In the past have these been Japanese eneloops?

  • I'm a little unfamiliar when it comes to Eneloops (OzBargain pleb, I know). For $18 including shipping, is it a reasonable deal on the charger with 2x AAs?

    • +2

In my opinion, it's not worth owning a 'dumb' charger, which I assume this one is.

    • +1

If you need it fairly soon then it is probably the best price atm (personally however I don't buy from Groupon without another further discount code). If it is just so you can proudly say you bought eneloops on Ozbargain you can always wait.

The charger is fairly meh, it does the job but probably the same as the Ikea one for $4. A better quality charger can be had from other places like zapals (Nitecore i2 for $12 or i4 for $18 + shipping. Normal shipping came up at $3.72 for me)

As commented before, the Ikea high capacity rechargables (AA 2450 and AAA 900) are very very good cells, made in Japan and likely to be rebadged eneloop pros. Bing Lee also has eneloops on sale on occasion.

      • How do you know if the Nitecore chargers sold by zapals are genuine Australian stock with Australian warranty?

Been looking for a charger for a little while and I see they have the D4 for a decent price.

        • What is "Australian stock" for battery chargers?

AFAIK they all come from the same place but with different plug adapters to accommodate different countries.

I hate to think of trying to seek warranty service on one, but at these prices it's not really worth it.

        • They probably aren't and they don't claim to be. If you expect australian warranty and service you will probably have to pay for it (like, double) so unless you expect a 50% failure rate you should be fine.

        • The only way to verify you have purchased a gen-u-whine Nitecore charger is to use their verification website post-purchase.
          http://charger.nitecore.com/validation

I can confirm the D4 is an excellent charger, especially helpful after you have been seduced to buy all sorts of funky batteries by the lad'n'lasses at OzBargain

        • @StingyBritches:

I purchased a D4 from Zapals recently and it seems to work.

Comes with a US plug and a travel adaptor. You can just replace the power cable with a normal Australian one and I always have some spare figure 8 cables or bend the plugs (I've always wondered if there were real issues with just twisting the plugs by 45 degrees.. they seem to work just fine over years having done that..)

I'm not sure what the difference between the D4 and the i4 that was mentioned above though..

      • How long would it take to fully charge a couple of AA2450 batteries using a USB-powered charger? A very long time, I imagine.

        • +1

Well, depends on the rate. At 300ma ( assuming 1.2v, which is the battery voltage) it would take 8hrs and a bit, and this is the normalish standard.

If we are talking theoretical then with a standard usb which can output 12w, can fill a 1.2v 2450mah battery in about 15 minutes (1.2v at 10 amps) assuming things don't explode and high efficiency.

      • Appreciate the replies. I went ahead and bought a Nitecore D4 from Zapals. Now to stock up on those batteries!

  • Any idea if they are Japanese?

  • I just need a bunch of AA! Any idea on a good deal?

  • i was in our local JB store and they had tons of Energizer AAA bulk pack 24pack on sale. pretty good deal for a trusted brand.

but these batteries, used once, end up in landfill within the year… whereas enloops charged with solar power over their lifetime will eliminate the need to purchase batteries for the next 5-10 years. good karma points too for being part of the solution rather than being part of the problem…
